Cheap Watch???
Went to Walmart today to replace my cheap watch that quit after about 5-6 years. Bought another for about $10. While there checked out the gun counter as I've read on other forums Savage Axis rifles are on clearance. They had 2, a 270 & a 30/06 listed for $198 so bought the 30/06. Don't need it but what the heck. So with tax my "cheap watch" cost me another $212.

Dang the bad luck.
That happened to me recently with a $15 tape measure ended up in the $599 range including the Glock 19x.
Congrats on the new rifle.

I have about the same tale from around 5 years ago to relate. Except it involved a $180 Mossberg Maverick bolt action .30-'06 at Academy. I had absolutely no need for it, but I couldn't pass it up. It was a very good shooter, but the trigger was a little gritty and the headspace was a little tight, but not objectionably so. I played with it for about a year and sold it for around the same price.

Well, if your new watch lasts a similar 5 years, that's only $42.40 a year, or 11.6 cents a day.
Really, what other combination of entertainment and functionality can you buy these days for that meager amount?

Hadn't been to WM in a long time but went yesterday. Bought nuthin!!
The gun racks were empty. A sign sauid they temporarily lost their internet connection and cant do nics.
The fishing counters were bare. Not a single lure or box of line.
Needed a sink stopper and none to be found.
The wife said they must not be stocking non-essential items.
I also needed some tums and the entire antacid counter was bare.

I had an Axis in .243. It had a godawful trigger and I actually called Savage, thinking there was something wrong from the factory. The technician I talked to said (IIRC) up to 8 pounds was acceptable!!! It would shoot about 1 1/2" after wrestling that trigger. LGS said it was impossible to do a trigger job, so I decided to get a new, adjustable trigger since I thought I saw accuracy potential in the rifle except for the trigger.
It was a great trigger. After installing it, the rifle shot 1 1/2", just like before. I took a bath on getting rid of it.

Thirty years ago, I went to a gun shop with a buddy just for something to do. He spotted a Thompson Center barrel (only) in .357 Herrett. Now, you know that I never owned a TC of any kind, but he said the barrel was DIRT CHEAP. So I bought it because it was dirt cheap AND came with a cheap Simmons scope (mounted), a full set of reloading dies and 100 rounds of correct brass. All I needed was a Thompson Center pistol....... Do I really need to spell out the rest of the 30 year story.... ? p.s. I will tell you that I still have that barrel; and that the scope lasted through many rounds of .357 Herrett before giving up. I love stories like this just to reaffirm that I'm "not alone".

Well I work part time at our local wally world and can tell you that anything outdoor related is almost impossible to keep on the shelf right now..... fishing, camping, outdoor games, bikes! I've been stocking the shelves with whatever comes in and it's usually all gone within a day! I have had days where I sold one fishing license after another, many to people who had never had one before. Stock is coming in but never enough to really get ahead of sales in sporting goods.
Gun sales are all done by computer through out the stores so if you can't get NICS you can't do much unless your area has an exemption for CCW holders like Ohio does. We've never put the guns up for a computer problem though, just posted a sign. They did have all the stores lock the guns up in the vault for a while when all the riots were going on, guess they were afraid they would come out to the rural stores to loot.
As to the plumbing stuff I can't say.... may be a supply problem, failure to order or just increased demand over normal. There have been shortages all over the store at times. It doesn't help that we have been short handed here and are often behind on getting stock put out (can't sell it if it's still in a box somewhere)

I just had to read this thread... Now I have a "rationale" for buying that Sig Sauer P200 in 10mm that sitting on the shelf in my LGS/range. And I still haven't sufficiently worked up the 2 686s I recently purchased. A buddy once told me "Life's a test." Now I understand what he meant.

I have had many very expensive haircuts over the years. The guys that hang out at my barbershop are always bringing in guns to sell or trade. I've had many $1000.00+ haircuts there. Not to mention $200, $300, $400, and $500 ones. I probably don't "need" any of those guns. Last two (same day) were a $250 sporterized Speingfield 03A3, and a new in box 1970s 4" Colt Police Positive.
Best Regards, Les

I've got a good Timex. I don't wear it much, but it's been sitting on my bedside table for 4-5 years and the battery hasn't run down yet. Keeps on ticking.

Yeah; probably 35 years ago now I went to the pawn shop on South Main in Cleburne, Texas. On whim I picked up an Astra Cub in .22 Short, well used, but still in its original box and a cheap watch. The pistol was $50 and the watch $5.
Wish I still had the Astra. It was a hoot to shoot in the yard of our old lake cabin, popping grasshoppers or weed heads at close range or chasing tin cans down the road leading to the cabin. Good for a cheap afternoon's entertainment. Don't recall how it got away.
Still have the watch which is a late 1940s-1950s military styled model. It's been my beater hunting, fishing, weekend chores watch ever since. Tougher than a cob. Didn't even have it cleaned and serviced until after I had it 20 years and has only been serviced once since then.

Went to a dealer for an oil change and walked across the street to another dealer and came home with a new car and an old one with fresh oil.

My brother knows an airline pilot that was flying to China every week. Got two of the best Rolex knockoffs youve ever seen for 80.00. Really nice no wind fauxlex.

A friend won an Axis in .270 at a LGS raffle. Had light strikes so I took a look and cleaned up the bolt mechanism (been ok since). Also loaded some custom ammo with the bullets just off of the rifling and he brought back a 100 yard target with 5 rounds in 1 hole.
Glad there are rifles in this price range for those in that market. Too bad we had to tweak his but it is a keeper now.
Watch content: think I damaged a nice mechanical when I failed to take it off before some 45-70 bench shooting. Accuracy got worse (on the watch).
