That is a nice find. The original triangular hand guards had a habit of having the "teeth" crack off. Having an original replacement set is good to have. Mine is about 10 years older than yours, it's from the early 70's.

I've been thinking for a while now that if (big IF) I were to get another AR type rifle that I'd like to have one similar to the M-16A1 Uncle Sam issued me back in the early 1970s. That rifle would be just what I'd be looking for.
Nice find. Congratulations!

I have a mint original proper Colt scope for my mid-70s SP1 but prefre open sites. Those SP1s commonly start a conversation when you take it to your local range!

Brownells has a repro scope made by the OEM available. I'm thinking about it.

Yes, and I’ve found Brownells retro/repro stuff to be pretty good quality.

Does it shoot well with the 44s and 45s?

Not sure if you're aware how much those handguards will bring by themselves these days. If that's an original A1 stock, then you have a lot of unlocked value in those items alone. Prices for original A1 furniture sets are insane right now.

Good looking rifle. Always been a fan of the A1/SP1 rifles, but have yet to add one to the collection.

Congrats.
