AR-15 22LR
I had been looking at the new S&W MP22 pistol and almost bought one but just couldn't justify the approximate 5 hundred dollar price tag. It would have been different, in my view, if it wasn't made of so much plastic. I had most of the parts to build one myself and that is what I did. Andersen lower, Colt upper, Maxim brace(even though not needed I left the JP silent captured spring with the brace), CMMG barrel that I had cut to about 7 inches and a CMMG bcg. The only major thing that I didn't have was a handguard, found one online and I like it so much I'll probably pick up another. Topped it off with a Holosun HS503CU red dot. It uses S&W magazines.

It looks great!
I'm curious. Was the Anderson lower an 80% receiver, or was it originally sold as a rifle or rifle receiver?

I have a complete pistol lower ( shipped as one) sitting in my safe since I SBR’d another lower 2 years ago. . I had been looking to do something with it, now I know, make a 22 pistol.
It will be heavier than the polymer receiver but I don’t care.
Thanks for the post.

I really like my dedicated .22 AR. Mine is a rifle, though. Fun gun.

It is marked as multi so can be used for either pistol or rifle according to my FFL.

I went the easy way and brought a Bravo CMMG Conversion kit so I can use it in a pistol or rifle.
I probably should buy a couple of more magazines as 22 Rimfire AR’s are hungry things.

I saved the order from PSA when I bought my lower to avoid any BS.
It clearly states “complete classic pistol lower” on it.

OP, sounds yours was transferred as an 'other' and you made a pistol with it. BTW, very nice 22 pistol build you did there!

Other is how it was transferred and thanks for the compliment!

A receiver is a receiver. It is neither pistol nor rifle until the gun is built. A few years back, the ATF issued an advisory that said FFLs should mark stripped AR15 receivers as "OTHER" (and not long gun vs. handgun).
"Multi" refers to caliber. But even that is meaningless. An FFL who logs an AR15 is not going to go by what it says on the receiver. He's going to see what cartridge the barrel is chambered for.
Caliber markings on the receiver are not restrictive. You can have a 5.56mm marked lower and slap on a .22LR upper. Perfectly legal, and the gun is now a .22 LR. Take that off and install a .300 blackout upper. Perfectly legal and the gun is now a .300 blackout. Swap that for a 7.62x39 upper and the caliber of the gun has changed. It matter not one bit what the markings on the receiver say.
An FFL logs the gun that he sees in front of him. If he knows what he's doing, he's going to look for the caliber markings on the barrel, not the receiver.

I bought the CMMG conversion kit and happened to have an old usgi M16 1 in 12 barrel lying around. that twist is a lot closer to what .22 rimfire likes and the accuracy is darn good. only issue is light primer strikes so i may need to check the hammer spring on the lower
