Recent Wal*Mart Acquisition
I just happened to walk by the Sporting Goods Display Case in Wal*Mart about a week ago and this knife set caught my attention.

These knives have handles made of leather washers, and I couldn't resist for $28.00 for the set as I recall. I could be slightly off on the cost by a dollar or two.
Anyway, the leather was somewhat dull in appearance in my opinion, so I tried to liven them up with every type of leather treatment I had available here at the house. Nothing phased them. When the treatment solutions dried, they looked the same as they did before I started.
If you look closely at the middle knife, you'll notice my latest attempt at livening up the leather handles. The middle one has five coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil on the leather washers.

I'm about ready to give the same treatment to the other two. Has anyone ever tried something similar?
Your opinions would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Stacked leather handles polish up nicely with a buffing wheel and bees-wax. An alternative would be a good leather waterproofing used for boots, found amongst cans of shoe polish, also buffed-out with a wheel.

AFAIK, the exposed surfaces of the leather rings are cuts through the hide, not the skin side. I'm thinking the leather is dull looking because it's not smooth, IOW, not burnished. You can burnish edges with a rotating dowel rod, rub it down by hand with a smooth piece of plastic, or chuck the dowel in a drill press. Not too fast - you don't want to burn the leather. A surface has to be slick smooth to shine, otherwise you get an effect like waxing a sidewalk

I noticed that it says it comes with "sheath".
Does it have three separate sheaths, or one big sheath that holds all three knives?
Logic says three separate ones, but you can't trust logic these days.

On older dirty leather knife handles, I have had good results using a good wax (johnson's paste) and then buffing out. Rubbing with the wax will clean dirt/grime and buffing will make it shine.

There are three separate sheaths, they're made out of a man-made cloth type nylon material with hard plastic inserts to keep the blades from cutting through. I'll try to get a photo of them after work this evening.
They are, unfortunately, all set up for right hand use. I truly wish the knifemakers would realize that not everyone is right hand dominant.

As promised, here are the three knives in their respective sheaths.

Although I wrote "respective" in the reply above the photo, that may not be the most correct way to state it; the two larger knives will fit into either one of the larger sheaths.
Also not mentioned in my original post, these knives are all very sharp and appear to have really nice edges with no odd angles to deal with. I think they're a really good deal for what they cost.
