A few Al Mar's
Between 2000 and 2008 I would fly my former boss to Portland, OR 4-5 times a year. It's a beautiful town, or at least it used to be until recently. That area is home to many great knife makers, including Al Mar Knives. As a former SF type and chief designer for Gerber his company produces really fine knives, even after his death. When a new product came out they would number the first 200 to 500 pieces and Portland was a great place to pick up low number specimens. While I used to collect #3's, I don't any more and have sold off all but the Shiva 25th Anniversary #003 of 500 (pictured below,not). Many of his knives were/are made in Seki and some here in the U.S. Some marked FM Co. just say Japan. FM Co. is Fadden Mar Company if anyone is interested.
First is an early collaboration between Benchmade and Al Mar. I was really surprised to find it, as it has the butterfly on one side and Al Mar on the other. BTW, no safety.
Then there's the prototype auto, #8 of 10 prototypes from 2007.

And finally a SERE Operator II, (Survival-Evasion-Resistance-Escape), and an old Falcon.
The next post will show why Al Mar doesn't use brown micarta any more.

The only one I have. Mostly opens envelopes or cleans finger nails. But very sharp.

Al Mar are great knives and really seem to hold there value. Had a few but never held onto them because the money was good selling them.

I've had it a probably 20 years or so. Bought it at a gun show from a collector so don't know how old it is.
