Colt resumes commercial M4 shipments
Colt has announced that they have resumed shipping the LE6920 carbines and have shipped 2000 so far with more to follow.
Good news indeed

I guess that they want to stay out of Bankruptcy
Good move, there is money in AR's currently.

Heh! Called it! (Albeit on another forum under a different username, so you'll just have to take my word for it...)
As soon as the news broke that Colt was no longer going to produce AR-15s for the civilian market, I said that it was just them trying to squeeze as much positive PR credit with the announcement that their overpriced line of AR-15s which had stagnated on the civilian market due to the available of more cheaply-priced yet high quality AR-15 pattern rifles were on the market, not to mention the availability of parts and relative ease of building your own for even less by acting like they were doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, but the minute there was significant demand for AR-15s, they'd go back to selling them in a hurry.
Stay tuned for when Dick's Sporting Goods announces that they're selling *ahem* "Modern Sporting Rifles" again and Wal-Mart starts selling handgun ammunition nationwide once again.

Oh, it’s definitely all about the dollar. Once the price went back up for AR’s, they’re back in the game.
Isn’t that what capitalism is as all about?
Don’t hold your breath on Dicks. They operate on a different paradigm.

All I know is the value of my early original Colt SP1 has more than tripled in the 15 years I've owned it!

I read that in American Rifleman and they shipped the first 2000 in June of this year and are shipping more as the price and demand has gotten high enough for them to jump back in.

I wouldn't have one of their neutered AR's, too many out there far better and ready to roll, and I'm a colt fanboy!

Not going to happen IMHO. Dicks is too PC, and I doubt WalMart wants the hassle dealing with 50 different state regulations.

The only Colt AR that I find interesting is their Vietnam model. Called M16 A1 Reissue or retro or something like that and it's only interesting to me because except for the selector switch (you know it's a semi-auto even if they included an "auto" marking on it) it just looks SO SO 1960s. But that's it's biggest drawback - the MSR for a very long time has been using M4 carbine-type collapsible butt stocks, etc., 16" barrels, not 20", and using a full sized, fixed butt stock is much more of a collector's concept than what most folks want these days in an AR style MSR (M4, to be more precise).
MSRs come in a host of shapes and colors and configurations and so forth from so many makers that Colt will have to be innovative and MODERN to compete. I don't mind the original configuration with the handle and such but after that, nope, I'd have to be a serious Colt collector to buy the new Retro AR.
Without that handle you can add scopes and red dots, whatever - but it's fun to use the iron sights although I admit this STAG hasn't seen round 1 in it yet. But I have always liked mil-spec peep sights so I'll leave this gun's sights and handle alone.
But this Bushmaster XM-15 is dead on with that red dot sight set up.
Neither one of those cost half of a Colt M16A1 Reissue (MSRP $2500) and both are equal to it or better, especially the Stag.

Glad to hear they are back in the game for the sake of their loyal customers.
Not a big deal unless you are dyed in the wool Colt fan, and there is nothing wrong with that!
Just like 1911’s there are ton of companies out there that make the same exact gun of comparable and in some cases superior quality.
I get that they are the original but that does not make them the best

Have an A1 that I put together years ago with help from the owner of my lgs with all the right Colt parts except for a preban lower from A2 h-bar .Recently picked up Colt scope clone from Brownels and the old girl shoots as good as you could hope for with m193. One of these days will get the right repro lower. Would still pick an A1 if I were needing to use it in anger.

To hell with them. Seriously, bow to political pressure in an attempt to look “enlightened” and then when the money is there, go back on it? That’s ok. Too many other options out there.

There are so many Good manufactures of the AR Platform rifles buying a "Colt" (that farm out most parts including lowers) just is not worth the $$$. LaRue is my go to, 1 factory bought, 1 home grown. 40 years ago there were 4 or 5 AR Builders. Today any meat head can build up 1 with high quality parts.

I guess I don't get the "Colt" brand on a AR thing. It's just a stamp on a dime a dozen rifle.

I don't really understand the animosity some have toward Colt AR15s. I had never owned an AR and knew little about them, but became curious a few years ago. I bought three new Colts, put scopes on two, and left the A4 for use with the aperture sight only.
I did lots and lots of load development, probably a few thousand rounds worth if you count all the group shooting. These guns have original triggers, handguards, etc. I'm not a gadgeteer and if a gun doesn't work well right out of the box, I usually don't keep it long. These guns all work well and are very accurate with match factory ammo, but they shoot even better with handloads I developed for them. Bulk ammo was a waste of money.
Perhaps the copies work as well as Colt products and may be just as accurate. I'll not criticize the facsimiles as I know nothing about them. After many years of buying, selling, and trading many guns, however, at gun shows, etc. it was easy to see that Colt ARs seem to be more desirable and hold value better than the knockoffs.
I bought Colts simply because I may want to sell them at some point and the Colts might be the best to have if such should happen. I can't see what these guns can do that a good bolt-action won't and I don't obsess over the possibility of combat against world chaos in my front yard. Guess I'm not really an AR guy, but my Colts have been good guns for what they are.

As there are so many great ARs produced today, what makes Colt so special??. Sure its good for a US company to come back and make something, but other than that so what? ARs are just tinker toy parts guns anymore,
Colt today is nothing like the Colt in the past. They used to make EVERYTHING in their giant plant. It is now a crumbling wasteland. But heck go for bankruptcy for a 3rd or 4th time.
