Question Mystery Knife

Can any of you give me any info on this unusual knife?

It has a four-sided unsharpened blade 6 1/2" inches long and was obviously intended as a "stabber" rather than a usable knife. The indications are that it was a military issue of some sort, based upon the construction of the sheath.
The knife and sheath are completely unmarked (sterile).
The blade looks very much like a bayonet, but the knife and sheath are well-made and do not appear to be trench art. The steel handle is sharply knurled.
I am baffled.

Thanks!

Tim

The frog looks like it may be from a Enfield Spike bayo. The actual knife/bayonet doesn't look like any I'm familiar with. From the looks of the handle, I'm thinking it may be some kind of bud k junk.

I agree with Seldon14, the frog and scabbard look like for a British Enfield spike bayonet. As for what you have in it, I have never seen one.

The spike daggers that hubby had and I sold were all 3 sided and custom made which this is not. Most all are 3 sided so I'm no help.

The "knife" looks to have no sharpened edges or point, and it's not tapered, so that leaves out it being a hole reamer of some sort. I'm thinking some kind of alignment tool?

SKS bayonet is four-sided, point is a wedge. Could it be that, modified?

My guess is a Trap Door Springfield 45-70 early model spike bayonet.

Never seen one before, so I did a little digging. There’s a few of those listed on the web with cruciform blades listed as OSS daggers. Most claim they were made from French Lebel bayonet’s.

Here’s one that infers it’s original:
Worthpoint British OSS Army Scout Recon Ranger Dagger

There are new made reproductions, but the blade flutes are very crude. Search for “ WWII Allied Forces D-Day Invasion Combat Knife” and you’ll find quite a few for sale.

Looks like a WWI trench modified (?). Maybe some kind of custom/war zone special forces modified (NOTE: lower case on special forces=generic)

S&Wchad--

I think you have found the answer! I was told when I bought it that it had its roots in a French bayonet, but was made by the British. Last night, I placed the sheath under a black light and I could just make out a Broad Arrow faint marking.

I believe this is authentic and very unusual. Than you all for your responses!

Tim
