Default 1934 Winchester 52 & A5 Scope

Got my early Winchester A5 scope back from repair last week and thought some of you might like to see it mounted on my 1934 Winchester Model 52.

Very nice! Yours appears to be the deluxe model.

These shoot like a house on fire!

Here is mine, 1929, with 1929 Fecker 8x scope.

Bob Seipp in Landing, NJ did the repair and it took about a week after he received it. He did a great job and at a very reasonable price.

I had absolutely no interest in these rifles...until I opened this thread. Now I want one!

I absolutely love them!

Here's my M52C topped with a 15x 2" Unertl. Tack driver!

I also shoot it sometimes with a 25x Lyman STS (but not in my living room!).

But the truth is, I much prefer shooting it with irons. It gets a lot of range time that way.

Just so you're shooting and having fun - that's what matters.

One of my biggest regrets is a Model 52 that I sold over forty years ago. At that time, there was no internet and no Model 52 book. I couldn't convince anyone (and myself?) that it was an original factory musket. I have still not seen another one.

My grandfather gave me a used 52B back about 1958 with the variable aperture rear peep and globe front. He had taken it as payment for legal fees. It was a laser. I competed with it through the Boy Scots and into college. When the university declared that it did not meet team standards it was moved from the team locker to a closet in the campus cops office. Sadly, a leaking fire sprinkler head dripped water on the leather case for some months before it was detected. The rust was so thick it wasn't recognizable as a gun. That left an emotional scar that still runs deep. I don't think I have ever had quite the same harmony with another gun.

My 52B came with a G&H front sight that uses a series of transparent plastic circular discs with various sized beveled holes of different sizes in them. They give the appearance of a floating black circle in which you center the target. There is also one disc which simulates a blade. Most unusual, and I have never seen another front sight like it. Has anyone else? I used that rifle when I was on the Ohio State Navy ROTC rifle team. Later on, I coached a junior rifle team for about three years. I always let the best shooter use my rifle in competition, one of which won the Maryland state junior rifle championship. Doubt if Maryland would even allow such a competition today, but at that time there were many junior rifle teams in Maryland. I am long past my competition days, but still have that 52B. I can't quite bring myself to sell it off. I would imagine the Unertl 10X scope is worth some serious money, as it is the same model as the Marine snipers used during WWII (and maybe somewhat later), except I've read the Marine scopes were 8X. For awhile, I used that scope on a custom varmint rifle but never did much hunting with it.
