I agree with Rudi. I have nothing against Glocks, or the people who use them. They are reliable. I've bought a few and really tried to like them but I was unsuccessful. After all of these years, I still like my handguns to have hammers and good triggers. I cling to my revolvers and 1911's and Sigs. So, currently, I have no Glocks in my collection.

I'm a diehard S&W fan....used to be Colt's too until stupid pricing caused me to sell my Python and OMM's.

Anyway....take a gander at the pic on the left...part of my accumulation of S&W wheel guns, a Browning Hi-Power, a 1943 Ithaca 1911A1, and you see that glaring, garish, hunk of plastic that's called a Glock 21, Gen 4 (45 ACP).

Why....why...did I get that thing, with all those fine Smith's to choose from (.22 up to 44 Magnum)?

Simple.....youngest daughter is a State LEO in another State and her State issued piece is a Glock 21 Gen 4. Whenever she is home for holidays or what have you...we hit the range to see who is currently "champ-o-the-lane". I tried with my Model 25-2 (too slow with moon clips....she's gone to sleep while I reload 3X)...my BHP (double stack but in 9mm). Finally broke down and found this Glock 21 with all the factory stuff for less than $500 OTD.

I agree with other posters above, get a decent Kydex holster (mine on the nightstand shown above is Safariland), then spend some time learning the trigger. It is gritty and different but I haven't had to do any mods to the gun at all..it just needs to be learned and then it is certainly OK. The gun is accurate, and no worries about scratching, gouging, a delay in maintenance, and as I have found out...use lube very sparingly as these like to run dry...not wet.

If the deal is right for you money wise...I don't think you'll find a better companion while out on the farm with dirt, and dust all around, rainstorm, etc. No leather or nicely finished piece to worry about.

I was not a Glock fan until I purchased a 43X, now its part of my CC rotation. A small light pistol with 10 +1 in 9MM that's super dependable.

Plus it's so ugly, who cares if it gets beat up.

Glocks are good guns overall. They're known for their reliability and being priced affordably.

Follks love to complain about their aesthetics or how they're "tupperware guns" because they have a polymer frame, but it's beyond beating a dead horse at this point, nor was either ever a valid criticism considering that they weren't designed to be a Barbeque Gun and polymer seems to hold up just fine to regular use.

So yeah, it's a solid choice as a carry gun. Sure, hipsters, showoffs, 9mm Fanboys, and cranky old-timers won't approve of your choice because it's too mainstream, too plain, too snappy, or too "tupperware" for their obnoxiously overstated tastes, but in many ways that's kind of a plus.

Get it and carry it with confidence.

Buying a Glock is like buying a Chevy Work truck with a LS1 motor in it. It ain't pretty but it will get the job done while being very dependable doing it.

I have had a few Glocks. Right now I have only two: a G37 45GAP and a G20SF 10mm. The GAP is a boutique caliber. You won't find ammo for it at most LGS. Good thing I reload. The GAP is roughly equivalent to a 45ACP+P but I know of a few who have pushed it way beyond. The G20 10mm is the smoothest shooting 10mm I have shot. Both are heavy hitters for automatics.

Previous Glock have been the G17, G19, and G26. The 9mm family. Like the Chevy 350 small block they are "slop" machines, throw one together and it will run. The G17 was the most accurate but with my 1911 Colt Govt with the stock competition barrel would have half the spread.

Glock's are ugly black guns that work. Every time.

Like I said earlier the Glock 23 was my issued weapon for the last 10 yrs of my career and I did shoot it well, but never cared for its blocky grip. A few months ago I p/u an 9MM M&P 2.0 Compact, used it for LEOSA qualification in July and discovered it fit my hand much better than the G23 and shot better, at least for me.

I'm surprised no one pointed out my motivation for the G22 and that if I carry it then my safe queens can be happily free from the abuse of EDC. I love my smiths but hate to beat them up. The Glock seems immune to carry, it still looks like it did when I bought it 8 yrs. ago.

As was said several times, Glocks are stone cold reliable and utilitarian. There are a couple other brands that can claim that as well, but what Glock has they don't, is the cheapest and most available magazines, the most complete aftermarket and OEM parts availability and most holster options. Seriously, Glocks may cost a bit more than say M&Ps, for example, but if you are a person who wants 6 or 7 or 10 or 20 magazines for your firearm, you will soon be saving money by buying a Glock. If you want different sights or trigger, you can find Glock stuff pretty much anywhere. Everyone makes Glock holsters.
It's true that Glock's claim to fame is their reliability and toughness, but their true strength is the availability and low cost of all the stuff for your Glock.

Cabela's had a sale on Glock 43's, single stack 9 mm so I bought one. I carried it as a CCW for awhile. I never developed a sense of beauty for it, it was a lump of black plastic.

I gave it to my daughter, the single stack allowed her to get a comfortable grip on it. She gave it back to me, she didn't like the fact that it didn't have a safety she could use.

I gave it to a friend, it is still there.

My summation; it is akin to riding a pink moped to the range.

While I much prefer my Smith M&P 2 my Glock 17 has been reliable and accurate. Re the Glock 22, if you are recoil sensitive you might not like shooting .40 cal.

Was never a Glock fan always preferred 1911/2011's, but gave the Glock platform its due. Most run well.
Finally bought a G35 for 3Gun use and it has grown on me. The trigger is tough to love, but not terrible. It runs well and mags/parts are plentiful. Actually kind of like it.

Would definitely consider a G22.

I currently own five Glocks and carry one 95% of the time. Also I bought a Glock for my son when he moved out. That should say something.

Started with a Glock 38. At the time my duty carry was a G37 and I figured I could get the specialized 45 GAP rounds from work. That didn't pan out and I also switched jobs so I got rid of it. Went to the Glock armory school and decided to get a Glock 20SF to tinker with. Still have it. I then expanded the polymer collection to a G43 and a G48. They all work great except the G20 can be picky on some types of ammo.

Glock = accuracy, capacity, reliability, durability, and price point. I love my revolvers, but a Gen 4 G19 has become a bedside HD gun. Bought it for my wife, who test fired one and chose it over my Sigs. I changed out the sights right away, and have put about 2k rounds through it without failures. I still prefer my Sigs, but the Glock is a workhorse at half the price.

Always shoot, shoot where pointed, easy to conceal, ugly as sin. I have 4 or 5. My EDC is a G27 with a 357 barrel and my nightstand gun is a G22 with a 357 barrel. G43 for quick runs to the store. Wife has a G43 for EDC & nightstand and G17 for walking the dogs before daylight. I have a G20 for sometimes use as a bear gun.

BTW: The Danish (Greenland) Dog Sled Patrol carries G20 for polar bear defense. These guys are out for 4-6 months in 2 man teams patrolling northern and eastern Greenland.

My modified G27 shoots 1.5" to 2" groups @ 7 & 10 yards. Rapid fire drill, I put 28 out of 30 into the head of a standard FBI silhouette (The other 2 were one in the ear and one in the neck/jugular). That was in <90 seconds.

I'll carry Ruger Blackhawks with stiff 45 Colt for bears but I think I'll keep my Glockes!

PS: Massood Ayoob told me that faster +P ammo (118, 124, etc) will cycle the sub-compact Glocks TOO FAST and cause jams. He suggester 145 gr, which is what both my wife and I carry.

Addendum: When I worked for US Fish and Wildlife, I help put together an Active Shooter class for us and Forest Service (we were co-located and had an incident of a guy with a knife). All the Special Agents carried G22's and all liked them, especially after one Ranger Captain shot the floor with his Sig!

I snorted coffee out my nose while reading this post. You mean Glock made you mad nearly 30 years ago because of their business practices and the guns are ugly.

Let's see, in 30 years I wonder if any of the other gun manufacturers have done questionable things to make potential buyers mad. In the past 30 years I can recall questionable business decisions made by say, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Ruger, Remington, Marlin, and Winchester. Plus, they've all made some ugly guns AND some of them weren't as reliable as the typical out of the box Glock.

A lot has happened in the past 30 years, just saying.

I have 4 Glocks., 2 G27 & 2 G30. My older G27 has been my EDC for years & years.

I've really wanted to Carry my 1911 pistols more since I am a big fan of 1911's but for the life of me I cannot convince myself of any compelling logical reason to carry my 1911s as a regular EDC VS this Glock 27., it is small, reliable, conceals easily, light to carry & with a payload of 9 or 10 (Depending on mags some are super stiff to get that last round in) .40 S&W 180 grainers I'm covered.

Recoil sensitive people might not like the .40 esp. in a G27 but it's no big deal to me or probably any experienced shooter.

The only thing I changed are: replace the pastic sights with night sights, extended slide stop / release lever & some Grip tape. I have a pinkie extension on my carry mag but not my back-up mag. I can shoot it fine either w or without the extension.

After roughly 5 K rounds?? I changed out the recoil guide spring & the trigger return spring., did one complete disassembly & deep cleaning in all that time, that's it.

It's always reliable but with this caveat; have found that it doesn't like older gen. magazines., I've gotten a few FTF. So I always use new mags with a '9' stamped on the follower., maybe it's just paranoia.

A Glock can be stripped, cleaned & reassembled in 60 seconds or less., easily once you get used to it.

Finally: a few safety concerns: A good kydex holster that covers the trigger is a must. When dissembling you must pull the trigger then release the slide so it is important that proper gun safety is in full force. If you work with different platforms the Glock is it's own manual of arms., be mindful of that.

I have two in my collection a 27 and a 33. The 27 I use as a carry piece.
My 27 is a very good shooting handgun and I shot it well right out of the box, but as stated elsewhere I do not like or trust there triggers with a round chambered for carry
But I like it

Walther makes better looking and better hand fitting polymer guns. Just sayin'.

There's no issues w carrying a round in the chamber. The firing pin block prevents anything happening. The firing pin block is only disengaged when the trigger is pulled., just like a series 80 Colt FP Safety.

Folks are entitled to their own opinion. Someone's gotta offer a different viewpoint on Glock.

I'm sure I'm a contrarian and livin' the Luddite dream. In my view there is much less than meets the eye with the whole Glock thing and always has been.

A Glock 17 lives here, acquired just to see what the fuss was about. It's viewed as a specimen for study rather than a cherished part of the collection and is subject to becoming tradin' goods at any time for I'll never invest the time or money in it to truly get to know it or seriously carry it.

Glocks have to be the handgun manifestation of the old story of the "Emperor's New Clothes." They're not special. They're not stupendously reliable, that is to say any more so than other fine auto-pistol designs. Their ugly lines and plastic-y aesthetics are an unacceptable offense to the eye and Glocks have triggers with the flavor of "yuck." I like handgun weight so particularly don't want what Glock has to offer.



Glocks could be said to resemble these.


Glock triggers are reminiscent of these.




Now some fuss about the Glock grip angle. I don't view that as a valid criticism for familiarization will effectively resolve grip angle issues. Grip angle is reminiscent of another famous pistol.


Around here other automatics are esteemed more than Glock.


If I intend to go the high-capacity route, both the High Power and the CZ 75 appeal more. As it is, if I don't carry a revolver it's the 1911 that finds its way into a holster.

Glocks are great ... for somebody else.

I consider myself more of a collector than a shooter but much like yourself the cosmos keeps bringing Glocks into my life. As of this moment the only one I own is a Glock 44 that is a complete piece of junk that has the adorable habit of ripping the bases off brass. They as a species have bad triggers and a bad grip. They tear up brass and are not very accurate. They are light and mostly reliable. That said, when the option came I chose the M&P 40 and lost money to get rid of a glock 22. Those finger grooves didn't fit me and elevated it from Lousy to unpleasant.

Maybe you'll fit those cursed finger grooves, but I didn't. I'm not going to say you're making a mistake but precut finger grooves are roll of the dice, and most don't fit me, maybe you're lucky.

Also, owning a glock pulls you in with this weird group of people, Team Glock is almost a cult and it can be really uncomfortable sometimes.

Glocks are...difficult to pin down. I have owned a dozen or more at this point, they have all gone down the road simply because they don't hold any place in the heart like a nice S&W wheel or a metal Sig does. They are expendable I guess. The best part of Glock is their PR department, they have convinced people they are somehow magical. Not to say they aren't reliable, or accurate. It's just in reality so are all decent firearms these days. Do they eat anything...usually. But part of that is they have oversized chambers, if you shoot 40 and ever try to collect the brass and reload them you'll find out. They are a decent mix of size, weight and capacity. They do most things well, but nothing either fantastically or horribly. I prefer the compact Glocks myself. Had a 22C at one point but I personally have no need for any of the fullsize models. Buy it and get a 357 barrel and it will serve you well around the farm, or will be a good trade item down the road. After all the only really bad thing about them isn't the firearms, it's the fanboys...

G26 as it uses the same ammo and mags as my Ruger PCC, my bug out set up. I also like that it can take G19 mags and I have a few with a xgrip for a full 3 finger grip.

I recently picked up a gently used G29 and it’s my first 10mm. It will be my woods carry gun and used for an upcoming Alaska hunting trip sidearm. Also like that it can take G20 mags but still need to find some.

I guess you could say I’m a baby Glock fan.

Many things about a handgun are subjective ie does it fit your hand ? Are the sights visible & quick to aquire ? Is the trigger usable or can you pull a truck out a ditch with it ? Is it accurate enough for the job at hand ? Lastly is it chambered in a round that you can shoot well ?
I have 2 Glocks a 30S & a 17 . Both have fitted KKM barrels , NS & Talon grips . I look at them like an AK , they'll take more abuse than you can dream of & they still work every time . Besides if one of my guns has to get a PD property stamp , let it be a plastic one . Yes they are ugly , some say " as ergonomic as a brick " , bottom line they're about as dependable as a mechanical device can be .

I carried a G21 for 21 years, never failed me and I shot it very well. If I am ever a LEO again I would carry a G21. That being said It is the only Glock I own and wont buy another one. I don't like it, its just a tool. I "like" my other guns.

Great gun. I dislike the snap of the 40 S&W round. The 17 is better.

I like my Glocks. Models 21.4, 30.4 and 48.1 are particular favorites (numbers are MODEL.VERSION). The new 17 Gen 5 (17.5) is quite nice and made me finally get another 17. I did not like the 17.3 that was standard for a long time.

The Glock 19 is also good. I like the 26.3 and 26.4, but the 43.1, and 48.1 have replaced it. The SIG P365 is challenging those guns!

I almost always install a Ghost 3.5# connector and NY-1 trigger spring. The result is a trigger that is approximately 0.5 to 1.5# heavier, but far smoother with positive reset. This spring compresses and seems to last longer than the standard spring (that pulls). Duane Thomas just wrote an article about his Glock 34 where he replaces the standard trigger spring every 5,000 rounds. Glock has modified its triggers and I haven’t bothered swapping parts on the 17.5, 26.4 and 48.1.

I did the same, but with Glock factory parts, when I had a Glock 23. Tried different trigger variations, and that was the best for me. Made the trigger feel more revolver-like and less stapler-like.

I have never owned a Glock , but I have shot one several times . I found them very accurate . On talking about the grip angle , I have been told it's the same angle as a Luger . Id like someone with more knowledge than I have on glocks to come along and either verify or deny this . I did find the model 43 easy to handle , comfortable in my hand and very accurate . I have actually considered getting one . Regards Paul

+ 1 on only using Glock factory springs & parts for trigger mods . Many different combos . Where most get in trouble is using too light a striker spring trying for lower pull weight . I just shoot mine like a DA revolver smooth pull through , seems to work for me .

Almost every problem I've ever diagnosed with a Glock was traceable to aftermarket parts. And in many cases, the factory parts are cheaper than the aftermarket parts.

I run all of my Glocks in their factory configurations. They go "bang" every time and are every bit as accurate and competitive as my Ed Brown 1911.

Glocks are great guns. They work great. They are very reliable. There is nothing wrong with them at all. But they are just so BORING!!!

I posted recently in another thread I much prefer a hammer. I only have Glocks for the 10mm cal. And a g22/357 conv. I do trust a Glock to work every time unlike the 1911 which I otherwise love. Its my personal bias and you can disagree, and I'm sure I will get that.
