The Marlin .410 and another good day of squirrel hunting
It's been a rough month or so, been going to PT for something, whatever the heck I did to my back/leg. Doctors think it's the sciatic because about six weeks ago, one day couldn't walk and the pain in my right leg was like someone set it on fire.
It's been getting better since with time and PT. I've dropped about 20 pounds or so since. Today was my first time really out in the woods so I kept it local and my son went with me, I had to know that if I could at least get out squirrel hunting, that I would be able to go deer hunting next month. Well, this morning went well, went out and after about an hour with my squirrel call we angered this grey squirrel and he came out of his tree to see what was up. He met up with my Marlin .410 lever gun that I truly have come to really enjoy hunting with.
My son wanted to carry him out, so I let him, and another treat was when we stopped and looked at the moose tracks that were in the trail. Not a lot of moose are seen around here, mostly north in the higher Adirondacks. I showed him when we got home how to clean a squirrel and get it ready for the freezer. Hoping to get another one or so to make a nice stew.

Game Getter
Great Story, Great Adventure, and Great Time out with the Son.
That Marlin .410 Lever Action is so neat. I always enjoy reading
about your Marlin .410.
Can't wait to see the New Marlin 1895 .410. Currently I have a
Wards Western-Field Bolt Action (my favorite) and a new 2019
Mossberg Pump Synthetic stock.
I like the 410 for around the Farm Yard. So safe around the
Buildings. Shot a lot of Raccoons, Skunks, Squirrels, and
Gophers.
Thank you for sharing your story and pictures.
The Best to you, your Son, and your Endeavors.

Wait is there a new .410 lever coming out? I've always thought the .410 lever guns were a great option that would be fun to shoot and collect. Glad to see someone is putting theirs to work!

Sounds fun and that is a fine looking Marlin 410. I have seen a couple older model Marlin 410's and would love to have one but not ready to pay the going price for a jm gun.

David, be aware about the leg/back problem. I had a situation the same.
Turned out to be the Iliac artery(at the groin leading to my left leg) which was 90% blocked. Had a heart attack, they corrected it by placing a stent in it, risky I was told but, it was a choice...living or dying. Get that checked ASAP. Nice .410 . Take care.

AWESOME !!!
I'll take a squirrel any day ... moose are too hard to clean .
I got some good recipes if you need them ... Gumbo , Sauce Picante , Fricassee , Jambalaya ....
Your Marlin 410 lever is the neatest little small game getter I've seen in a coon's age ...give the bushy-tails heck with it this year !

Had same hit me Christmas week. I had to have bypass surgery in groin.
Put up with leg pain for couple years writing it off as back trouble. It was emergency surgery. Doc said another 24 hours they would had to amputate and 48hrs I would have been dead. I had never been seriously ill and always ace yearly physical.

I really enjoy small game hunting; usually wait until snow coverage or colder temps. Thanks for posting and sharing! I'm getting excited now for it!

David- Turned out my sciatica was caused by carrying an overfat wallet in my right hip pocket. Moved it too left side, thinned out, and no more problem. Hope your Docs thought of this.

Your son is fortunate to have a Dad who is teaching him safe firearm handling and introducing him to the wonders of the great outdoors. I wish that there were more like you.
In around the 1940-41 era I was working after school and weekends at a service station. There was a minister that hung around the station some and he had a Marlin 410 lever action that he wanted to sell me for fifteen dollars. That was fifteen days pay and although I really wanted the gun I couldn't bring myself to do it. Many regrets since then.
