Let’s Play... Name This Shotgun!
No prizes, but brownie points to the first to identify the manufacturer. Extra credit for the model name...
I just attended my first gun club swap meet or gun show since early March. It was a 2-1/2 hour round-trip drive to this small gun club, but I couldn’t pass it up. I went for set-up Friday night and went back again Saturday for 5 hours. There were only a dozen exhibitors in a large hall and we never had more than 10 attendee’s at a time. Social distancing was not a problem!
This gun was set out on a table on Saturday, about 2 hours after opening. I recognized the model from a distance and was the first to show interest. After getting permission to handle it, I picked it up, flipped it over and saw that there was a live shell in the magazine tube! 
I had a little chat with the owner, cleared the gun, paid for it and tucked it away.
Who made this shotgun?

Bingo, it is a Breda grade III fixed choke skeet gun from 1960! From what I’ve seen, the Mark II had a fairly large visible cross pin on the bolt and my bolt lacks that.
These were considered one of the finest autoloaders available at the time. Only the Franchi was lighter in weight. They’re inertia (recoil) operated like the A-5 and you can disassemble them in about a minute without any tools. The claim it took 50 minutes to slow drill the barrels from a solid block of alloy steel and the bore and internals were hard chromed. Most came with screw on choke tubes.
The Breda Standard Auto wasn’t popular in the USA because production quantities were low and they cost about $30 more than a Browning A-5. I knew all about them because I had a friend who owned a few and held them in high regard. This was the first high grade I had ever seen and I was more than happy to pay full 1962 MSRP for it!

Was this gun ever marketed under another name? I had a gun action looked similar and had odd name. Was in 80s. I had another Franchi look alike Universal? I’ve never seen any of them in hi grade models.

Maybe Continental Arms? There is one on GB, has a side mounted lever safety on right side of receiver.

Have you shot it yet.
I thought breda from the safety, they have an interesting manner of loading, you say yours is fixed choke, mine has three choke styles, what caught my eye was they screw on the outside, it is called quick choke, I have two of the screw on styles.
I asked my gunny why the different way of loading, he said it's European and they do things different, nice pickup.

Did you by any chance get a manual with your new buy?
If you are interested I found a 12g semi manual, with english explanations and a full schematic, I've been looking for quite a while and this is what I've needed.

I don't have pictures but I have a 1957 30.06 built by cogswell harrison, but their shotguns are incredible, why don't I have one? I'm just a pore elderly pensioner.

I believe that is a Charlin, instead of a Darne.
Nope it is a high grade Darne I believe, after a closer look.

Gorgeous gun! I think of Darne at first glance, but other manufacturers produced sliding breech shotguns. It’s obviously a higher grade gun, possibly a V22. Is that yours?
I passed on a field grade Darne 20 gauge years ago and still think about it. IIRC, it was priced at $950. It had very plain wood and typical European style sling swivels. If I found one like you pictured at a decent price, I’d be on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich!

Here’s another fairly obscure shotgun for you to ID. It’s a 12 gauge boxlock with a scalloped aluminum alloy receiver. It has a solid rib, ejectors, steel firing pin bushings, cocking indicators and a three piece forearm. As you can see, it weighs in at just under 6 lbs.
This was a WWII bring-back and was a mess when I bought it. The wood was rough, the bluing was well worn and it had a social security number electro penciled inside the trigger guard and on the bottom of the barrels, under the forearm.
The manufacturer is still in business (hint #1), so I shipped the gun off and had them restore and modify it. They opened the chokes to IC/Mod, lengthened the forcing cones and removed the SS#’s and sling swivels. They refinished the wood and the barrels, re-cut the checkering and added a brass shield to cover the swivel hole in the stock. It’s probably the lightest 12 gauge over/under I’ve ever handed and I’ve used it at deer camp to take partridge! 
Hint #2: It’s not a Merkel!

I’ve missed the boat a couple times on making a killer buy and it’s always been on Shotguns. It was because I didn’t know what they were. I had a chance to buy sliding breech Darne 20g cheap and didnt. Went home and looked it up but was to late. Went to small show in WVa. Guy had a cased pair of Jeffery 410 §x§. Nothing fancy at all. He wanted $1500 for pair. I really wasn’t into shotguns and didn’t buy. Went home that night and decided to go back in AM and buy them. I did and guy had sold one gun out of the pair. I walked again.

It sure is, only back then they went by Sempert & Kreighoff. Herman Goring was fond of their drilling’s and Lugers. Another Kreighoff drilling attributed to Hitler sold a few years back for $140K. These were made long before Kreighoff bought the tooling and rights to the Model 32 from Remington and started producing the K-32. That turned out to be a wise move, since it evolved into the K-80’s and K-20’s, which are very popular today!
Mine isn’t attributable to anyone, but it is a high grade dural frame 300 series boxlock with double underlugs and a double Kirsten crossbolt.

It sure is, only back then they went by Sempert & Kreighoff. Herman Goring was fond of their drilling’s and Lugers. Another Kreighoff drilling attributed to Hitler sold a few years back for $140K. These were made long before Kreighoff bought the tooling and rights to the Model 32 from Remington and started producing the K-32. That turned out to be a wise move, since it evolved into the K-80’s and K-20’s, which are very popular today!
Mine isn’t attributable to anyone, but it is a high grade dural frame 300 series boxlock with double underlugs and a double Kirsten crossbolt.

Coach guns
My wife bought me a stoeger coach gun but it is internal hammers, do any of you have the old style external hammers, nothing says old west like a colt and a coach gun with a well worn 1873 for me.
