Default Haven't heard much of KAHR lately

I'm looking for a new .380 "pocket" pistol, and the Kahr is on my short list; but I haven't heard much about Kahrs lately. They are still in business, but have they fallen out of favor for some reason ?? Comments welcome.

I think it's just the cycle of things. Kahr takes the back seat while other guns move to the front.

Then again, I don't really follow Kahr that much. I'd still like to get a P9, though.

Can't speak to why not much is heard about them lately, but I can vouch for their P-380 pocket pistol. Great trigger for a pocket pistol and is accurate with good sights (again) for a pocket pistol.

I owned a Kel-Tec P-3AT and hated the trigger. I sold it and tried the Ruger LCP and the Kahr P-380..........I chose Kahr over the Ruger for the trigger and better sights and accuracy. Down-side to the Kahr is the price. It does cost more than the Ruger. Kahr has a CW-380 that is not so expensive, but I think it still costs more than the Ruger.

I've been a Kahr fan for a while and haven't really heard any less than the sparse internet chatter they've always had. Just before the scamdemic started I bought a P380 and love it. Paid $299 with three mags. By far the tightest mouse gun I've had, but once loosened up it quickly became one of my favorites.

They are still in business and doing fine I assume.

Probably not hearing much about Kahr because of a lack of innovation and not much in the way of new models in years.

I had a CW380 for a while but could never get it to run w/o some sort of malfunction w/failure to feed being the most common. My LCP (second generation) has never failed in over two years.

Revolver Guy here - I like my Runt 9.
Lack of new models and not much Negative press probably limits how much you hear about Kahr.

I like the way that Kahrs look, but Justin Moon's checkered family history and the infamous factory-recommend break-in period put me off. I just can't see paying that much for a firearm that isn't reliable out of the box and may not even be reliable after a hundreds of rounds.

I'd rather get something cheaper that has a good reputation out of the box. Ultimately I chose the Ruger LCP due to their reputation, low price, and extreme ease of carry.
I know that some folks just can't see carrying a polymer-framed pistol, and neither could I at first, but the Ruger LCP was actually the firearm that changed my opinion. If it's got to be all-metal, then I would recommend either the Bersa Thunder 380cc or the Remington RM380.

Just because I won’t ask directions don’t mean I won’t follow directions!
I actually did the recommended Kahr shot in.
With mostly Blazer Aluminum case Ammo, got one failure to return to full battery, gun was hot and dirty.
Fat thumb on slide fixed it.

A couple years ago, I bought a new CW 380 at a gun show. Liked its trigger, and over all feel. Maybe a replacement for my trusty LCP?

About 250 rounds of Rem and Win hardball, a couple mags, and I still couldn't get reliable function. Could have tried more break in rounds, or sent it back for repair, but sold it with a disclaimer. My LCP works great, and I can hit what I aim at with it, so why mess around? I should add that most people seem happy with theirs.

Have not heard anything about Kahr having difficulties. I think, like usual, they offer a limited number of models, fly under the radar, and are as popular as ever with their fan base.

Kahr has been busy expanding the Magnum research line that they purchased a few years back. That is their money maker now.

Nice. I was seriously considering getting one a couple of years ago when I was looking for a compact 9mm, but I ended up trying a Beretta PX4 Compact 9mm at a rental range first, and, well, I bought one and it's been my EDC since then.

But yeah, a P9 is definitely still on my wishlist.

I very much like my PM9 but also didn't have the best of luck with their CW380. I like the long DAO trigger and I (now) trust the PM9 with a round in the chamber for occasional carry.

Of the one's I have the CM40 has enough recoil I
put a piece of bicycle inner tube on the grip.
The aggressive checkering ate me up.

They all run fine. I "think" the 200 round break in is
Kahr lawyer proofing CYA for those who buy a pistol
as a boogie man talisman never using it until they
have the Oscar Sierra encounter.

If you say your customer should shoot the gun 200
times to "break it in", at least they had to operate it.

I've shot double action for years and Kahr's triggers
are a natural. Same as SIG's DAK trigger for that
matter. For me they are in effect, flat revolvers.

My only complaints are expensive magazines and
since they such a small vender no one makes a
357 SIG conversion barrel for the 40's.

I have a PM45 that I got in a trade. It's a very nice gun. Extremely well designed and well made. Feels great in the hand as well. Those things being said, it remains unfired by me as it wasn't by the original owner. I'm just not a fan of polymer guns. It will sit in the safe until I can find it a new home.

Isnít tying Kahr to a wacky Korean church akin to tying Walther or Mauser to Adolf Hitler? And few bat an eye at AK47s, the favorite tool of communists.

Itchy and I each have CW 45s, CW9s, and she has a CW380.
She mostly carries the 380 concealed but likes the 9mm for giggles and grins.

When we go out of town or someplace together, we both carry the 9's for magazine and ammo compatibility.

I carried the CW9 for a while and liked it until I ran across the Sig P365. Mo' bullits!!

Years ago I was originally out to buy a Kel Tec P38T or a Ruger LCP. The shop had both so I could handle and compare them. The owner of the shop then showed me a Kahr P380 and Iím glad he did. I could have bought three P38Tís or two LCPís for the price of the Kahr. I am very happy with the P380.

I was so impressed with the P380 I bought a PM9, then a PM45 followed by another PM9. They are superior to many pistols in my opinion. The Kahr design combined with Karl Lothar match grade barrels are super accurate. Since they are polygonal rifling lead bullets are out of the question though. I tried my favorite.45 handload in the PM45 even though Kahr said no lead. It had to go back to the Factory but it came back fixed with a tuned/lighter trigger and all was free to me. Great customer support even for idiots like me.

Kahr CM series pistols have conventional rifling.
I shoot cast out of those. At 20 yards they do OK.

Years ago I got a LC9s because it concealed so well. After shooting it some I decided that the recoil impulse was wrong for me, even with a Hogue fitted.

So, I bought a CW9 when they were on fire-sale at CDNN. Much preferred the handling and I was starting to shoot it well when PSA fire-saled the Walther PPS-M2. The PPS made me a god on the range, so the Kahr and the Ruger are warming the bench in the safe.

They are way behind in the market imo. Before the LCP kicked off the carry gun revolution, Kahr was a market leader, they where one of the only companies offering a line of small, lite, carry focused pistols. Now a days pretty much every major manufacturer offers a more reliable, cheaper, more feature rich pistol.

Default Khar 380

I have a p380 that has been problematic for years. I have learned that that the thicker rims of some (most) european ammunition are a problem.
Another thing that really helped the gun's function was the addition of "Magguts" magazine springs and followers. These really improved function and reliability, and added one more round to each of the six and seven round magazines as a bonus.
It's good to go now.

Carried a CW40 for years. At 18 oz. it should be a handful but somehow Kahr tamed the 40 and it's a reliable, accurate, comfortable little pistol to shoot.
It is far more accurate than my 9mm. Shield, why replace it?

The ammo shortage has to be hurting Kahr sales. I wouldn't buy one until the shortage eases because i can't/won't use up 200 rounds of my ammo breaking it in.

I had a CW9m/m that was an excellent gun and perfectly reliable but the market is really loaded with great small defensive semi-autos with the Sig 365 leading the pack. It's not much bigger than the .380s and carries a lot of ammo and more punch and it's getting all the press and really is the benchmark for all others to beat right now.

I find the break in to be a truthful engineer. I would never consider a defensive pistol or revolver to be adequate until it has seen 250-350 rds from my hands. I reload and cast for all mine so the cost is minimal. 40 S&W at my stashed component cost run about $40 a thousand.

Exclamation

I have a CW9 which was thin and light and fit my CCW needs at the time. At the time there wasnít much to compare. It was approved by NYPD as a backup. I figured they did some research. Cylinder and Slide started doing package modifications on Kahrís. I had some experience with Laughridge from the 70ís. One day I was on business in Nebraska and stopped by C&S and left behind the gun. They did a bunch of work and turned a good gun into a really great gun.

This was exactly my thought.

I have owned Glocks (plural), S&W, Kel-tec, and an H&K that were not reliable when I got them. Most of those were new guns, though the H&K USP was a police trade-in.

I would simply never trust a gun I hadn't broken in, and IMO Kahr is just being honest about the need for a firearm to be broken in to prove/establish reliability before it is used for carry duty. Most manufacturers bank on the fact that most gun owners either a) never shoot their guns or b) don't require a gun to be 100% reliable (or as close as they can get).

As for the brand Kahr, I've never owned one, but the few I have handled seem like decent guns. I like the long trigger, though I think I prefer the Kel-tec half-cocked hammer design that Ruger "borrowed" for their LCP/LC380/LC9/Security 9.

I think I like the Taurus/H&K design even more, with a long very light take-up before a fairly light SAO trigger, but that's a topic for another thread.
