The HD Military is my favorite. I like it better than the striker fired models. I have a 4” and a 6.75”. I’ve had 4” for over 50yrs and have run hundreds of rounds through it.

I bought a High Standard M106 citation With a 7-1/4” barrel, 4 or 5 months ago. I have always shot a S&W M41 , which I own 8 of, and didn’t think think any other gun could shoot as well. The High Standard with the adjustable sear has as good a trigger as the M41 and shoots just as well.

I too have a HD Military, a 1947 issue. Learned a lot from the guys at RimfireCentral.com - Rimfire Community! where there is a sub forum dedicated to the Hi Standards.Be sure to only shoot SV ammo in it.
Regards, Ray

Closest thing I have to a "family" gun.
Bought by my Brother-in-Law in 1946 when he got back from the South Pacific WW2.

Someone obviously has a sub-collection of High Standards....
Here's another one for you. (There's only one HS in the picture..)

I always wanted to put adjustable sight on the G380 and see what it would do. Might be worlds most accurate 380.

My brother and I have about 20 High Standard pistols between us.
Ray is not kidding about only using Standard Velocity ammunition. The paperwork with the gun may say that the gun will function with High Velocity shells, but the metallurgy will only take Standard Velocity ammunition. Use of High Velocity ammunition can lead to cracking the frame at the back corners of the magazine well. I bought a High Standard Victor at auction and I admit I didn't check the frame as well as I should have. The frame was severely cracked and it took a long time for High Standard to replace the frame.
One of the first High Standard .22 target pistols I bought was customized by John Giles, an old time pistolsmith. The seller had the test target, and it showed the gun putting 10 shots into 5/8th of an inch at 50 yards from a machine rest.

Back in the early 70s I took up BE shooting and lusted for a 41 like all the other guys used. However, I had only been out of college a couple of years, was in grad school, was starting a new career and had a pregnant wife. Funds were short and a 41 was not in the cards at that time. However, I did find a 7 1/4” fluted HS Supermatic Trophy at Southwest Shooters in OKC. After working on the magazine lips, I found I had a pistol that was competitive with the 41s. Years later, I got my 41 but still prefer that old HS when I am on the firing line.

I really don't want to hijack the original post, but there are a lot of High Standard lovers here, so.....
I have an H-D Military that superficially looks a lot like the one in the original post, but there are some problems with it. It was reblued about 40 years ago by a jack-leg that didn't know what he was doing , and it came out kinda grey. More recently, it was re-chambered by another jackleg (not me) and I think the lining he put in the chamber section is screwed up. I want to get rid of it, but I don't know whether to try to salvage it, sell it as a project gun, or sell for parts.
What do you guys think I ought to do? I'm not interested in shooting it now. I'm so disgusted that from now on I'm only shooting S&W revolvers. It once was a nice gun, but now......

I like High Standard .22 LR pistols. My preference though is for the 107 Victor models.
I have a Hamden marked 5.5" "Military" Victor with the early case hardened mag release and steel "2A" style vent rib dating from late 1971 (catalog number 9217).
I also have a Hamden marked "ML" prefixed 5.5" Victor with the solid aluminum rib dating from early 1976 (catalog number 9211).
I also have a S&W Model 41. The Model 41 is a great gun and it shoots as well as the Victors in terms of mechanical accuracy. However, the triggers on my 107 Victors are adjustable to a lower weight than the S&W 41.
The S&W 41 likes CCI standard velocity just fine, while the Victors prefer Sk Standard Plus.
The Victors have a potential edge in reliability, but that's also dependent on properly tuned magazine lips given that they have no feed ramps, and that's a whole separate skill a Victor shooter needs to develop.

I’m gathering up parts to put another HD together but I have no extra barrels. There was a 4” barrel on eBay but was hi dollar. There is one floating around locally that has poor nickel plate job and no slide. Kid wants $150 for it.

I shot a High Standard Victor for over 30+ years. I had had a Mod 41, and a LNIB Victor was traded in at my LGS. Knowing the owner, he let me take the Victor out to the range and shoot side by side with my 41. After several magazines through each, I determined the Victor suited me best. I don't recall the exact trade, but very little if any cash changed hands. I shot that Victor in a bullseye league for years, competed in some international competition, and used it in IHMSA Silhouette. I only parted with it about 12 years ago when I got my Russian IZH 35M and some custom grips.

The argument over 22Target pistols never ends. I think 99% of it is not the pistol it’s the shooter. It’s what you are use to or what fits you best. I see guys all the time wanting to buy gun or accessories used by one of the champion shooters. That has not a thing to do with how that rig will work for you.

This is the one that worked for me. (Unfortunately my eyesight is going and I can't shoot it as well as I used to..)

Very nice vrichard. You did good.
I always like the looks and feel of the H-D Military and I was also able to acquire a nice one a few years back. This one is a 1947 production and with standard velocity .22 ammo it's a tack driver.
