Default 1974 Marlin 20" in 35 Remington with scope

I now own a few old lever-action rifles, and I like them.

This one came to me from Chuck's Firearms whose previous owner is a big deal among S&W collectors.

I got a tip that this gun was in their inventory. I got down there:

The other side:

I think the older wood and blue metal are mispriced today.

Very nice! I have an old Marlin or two myself. Had a .35 but let it get away. My ideal would be a "T" model in .35; they are pretty hard to find.

Great looking Marlin. All my Marlins are pre safety and I like the wood and bluing myself. The 35 Remington is a great round. I have a 52 336 in 35 Remington and a 1908 pre model 8 in 35 Remington as well.

In the 1980's I lived in the Atlanta area and hunted with a friend that had a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington with a Weaver scope..........your rifle looks like it's "twin".

Thanks for the post and the pics. Made me recall some great hunts with my buddy there.

Very nice and congrats.

I'd sure like to see a picture of an older 35 REM.

Very nice OP- the 35 Remington is such a classic old cartridge. I hunt with one regularly.

Great rifle and great cartridge. Love that old walnut and high polish bluing. Friend had one in 35 back in the 70s bought new for around $100. Lijke the old gold plated trigger and that Marlin Mar-Shield finish on stock. often surprised how reasonable these vintage Marlins can be bought for. Seems like they should sell for more considering workmanship and overall finish that went into them.

Well, JM Marlins were sleepers but not so much anymore. Remington ruined the brand and know Ruger has bought them. If Ruger revives the Marlin 336 and other levers, it will not be same gun. Personally I think hunters and shooters are nuts to buy new guns made with MIM parts. At this time and time is slipping away, you can buy a high condition JM Marlin 336 for less than new. Collectors will know be after Remlins. I can already here the spiel, they don’t make these anymore.

Mine is a 1965 JM 336 in .35 Rem. It's a great round for Upstate NY hunting. I love it. Nice balance, points and sites in easily. Mostly, lefty friendly!

"Collectors will know be after Remlins."

Funny! Where I live, the sales ads are very careful to point out
that a Marlin is a JM gun, and I have seen ads reporting that "although
it's a Remlin, it's a good rifle..."
Most people I know wouldn't touch a Remlin.

Not touch a Remlin ?
Remains to be seen but I remember when nobody wanted a Bangor Punta and Lear Seigler ? Forget about it !

Funny things happen with time.

I just got some of the new Hornady ammo in 35 Remington ($1.50/rd). It has some rubber at the tip of the shell so we can use it in a lever-action.

I will test it tomorrow.

I tested it and all is great. I really like the Hornady ammo in the Marlin 35 Remington. I also tried the brand in a Winchester Model 94 30/30 which also worked great.

I have used 35s a lot. Marlin 336, Rem 14, 141, 8 & 81. The one thing they all had in common was they shot 200gr RN bullets better than anything else. Factory or handloads. More power to you if your rifle does well with gummies.

I would like to test the Marlin in 35 Remington with round nose cartridge's but couldn't find any FS.

I could only find the soft tip gummies. Yet, I really liked them in this Marlin as well as in a Winchester 94 in 30/30.

I have plenty of 30/30 with round nose cartridge's, but I am keeping them for now.
