Default Savage 24v .30-30/ 20ga. Installing red dot

The season is upon us and I want to be ready for deer and turkey.
I’m going to put a Burris II fast fire on it. Getting both the 30/30 and the shotgun regulated may be interesting.
If I can get 50-75 yds. On the rifle and 35 with the shotgun, I’ll be happy.

I have a Savage in that Combo, I like it.

My opinion is zero the dot to the rifle at your max practical distance. Then pattern you shotgun. Then for giggles try some trap or skeet singles with your sight turned on. You will be surprised how little that dot means on moving targets! (you will be at your normal shotgun average in 4 to 8 rounds!)

Anything that will help is good. My wing shooting stinks
Besides, this is for a typical 50-75 yd 30-30 shot or a 30-35 yd turkey shot with the 20.
That’s 95% of my woods range in Va. mountains

I bought a 22/20 several years ago that came with a cheap red dot. I had heard of the warnings not to scope as the shotgun recoil was hard on crosshairs but mine is fine.

I have good bit of experience with Sav 24s. With regular 24s with the 22 or 22 mag barrel the problem is keeping the scope from walking. The small diameter of barrel doesn’t allow D&T. You have to settle for 22 rings that clamp to the grooves. Run of mill 22 rings will no hold. Scope will walk off gun in a few shots, very few with 20g.
On subject of sighting in, doesn’t matter what device. Sight it in for rifle.
This goes for all 24 models and caliber combinations. The rim fire model with barrels soldered are sometimes very close to same point of impact.
Unless you are shooting slugs out of shotgun barrel most are good enough for shot. The separated barrel models are not as close as a rule. The early 24v was much better gun than the last versions they put out.
