9mm Gatling Gun
One of the guys at the range came over to me and said that he thinks he found his new firearm. He opened up his latest Firearms News and there for anyone to see is a 9mm Gatling Gun that uses Glock mags. The price tag of $5K might seem a little daunting and for those of us with rules regulating how many rounds we can fire per minute (No More Than 1 Round Per Second) it would need to be messed with somewhere else. Locally there has been a Colt Reproduction 45/70 Gatling Gun for $20K...9mm...hmmmm

There is a gun shop about 30 miles from me that has an indoor range and they have one. I do not know what it costs to shoot it , they have a few videos on their facebook page of someone shooting it. It looks like FUN.

Just what you need in the middle of an ammo shortage.

??????? Never heard of such foolishness. You can fire way more than one round per second with any decent revolver, pump gun, or semi auto. With enough practice you can beat that 1 second with a good bolt action. Probably hit close to it with some single shots it you really hustled.
Here is a guy firing 10 rounds in 6.4 seconds with a bolt rifle. You have to scroll down a bit to see the video
You Can Shoot a Bolt-Action Almost as Fast as a Semi-Auto
The Brits used to practice the mad minute with Lee Enfields and most could get about 30 rounds per minute with a record for 1 minute of 35 rounds. Which is not a round per second, but it was necessary to reload the non detachable magazine several times
I have seen a 22 lr Gatling gun for sale.

The $20,000 price tag is not the expensive part. Paying for the ammunition is the real expense in owning a 45-70 Gatling gun. That is the reason for scaling one down to fire 9MM Parabellum. Years ago there was one that was 22LR.
It was back about 8 years ago, The good folks at Colt brought one of those brass, 1877 Bulldog Gatling guns to the SHOT show. This is a beautiful piece of Americana.
The day before SHOT opened Colt had one setup out at Media Day at the Range. We shoot all the new firearms and ammunition and get to drive the new off road vehicles out at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club whivh is about 1/2 hour from Las Begas. The SHOT show busses all of us out there and back and even feed us lunch.
Colt had brought 15,000 rounds of ammunition with them and let each of us put a stick through it
Saying that it was the thrill of the show for me is probably an understatement
You hand loaders are going to sympathize with me, I hated walking away from that HUGE pile of once fired 45-70 brass
I have seen that 9MM Gatling gun in action somewhere in the past year, but I can not recall where and I do not appear to have photographed it

I think they are about $5K from Tippmann Armory (or something close to that). Looks like a hoot to shoot and great for home defense!

I think what Kinman meant was that there are ranges where you'll be asked to leave if you start double tapping and the like. Saw it happen here in Vegas once at a range no longer open.

Tippman arms makes the 9mm Gatling. Guns magazine did an article a few months ago (Will Dabbs--arrghh!). There's a few youtube videos out there--it does look like a lot of fun.
My friend has a .22 Furr on the same tripod set up as the Colt.
It is registered locally as a "lever action pistol." Beautiful workmanship. I want it!

But just think how cool it would be going down the road being towing it to the range.

My gun shop has one for sale, they look goofy with the rubber tires though, they need some wooden spoked wheels IMO.

I thought I had a picture of the Gatling at NRA Whittington, can’t find it.
So here one I found online.
This sits in the entry just inside the front door.
Take a look at that Caliber!

Sorry if I wasn't clear about shooting more than one round per second. Our range has a limit of one round per second, no double taps allowed. We also don't allow shooting from a holster, all firing must be done with the firearm on the bench or held in the hand pointed downrange at all times. We do have special organized events that allow those practices but not on the North Range, that is indoor stuff.
We have found through the experience of time that limiting shooting this way is much safer while dealing with the public and people with little or no training. There is always the guy or pair of guys that will come onto the range, violate a few rules just to try us out, get cautioned or schooled on the rules, be good boys for about an hour and then just as they are packing up to leave fire off a mag each as fast as they can manipulate the trigger. They are usually walking to their vehicle when the range officer catches up to them, makes note of the vehicle I.D. and license number for future reference. Its not too often but enough to make you not too excited about daily shooters, the Covid thing has been a blessing in disguise because we don't allow daily shooters and membership is way up because if they want to shoot they have to join.

Bummer. Our range is the type where you let yourself in with your key. I have never seen anything stupid there. Pretty self policing. I have heard of a few guys run though a magazine pretty fast, but never any real issues. Everyone I have met there has been really friendly, nice and polite. If I show up and there are a couple guys shooting they will more than likely offer to stop and let me hang my targets. Rule is range goes cold every 15 minutes. But, usually unless there are a bunch of people there it is by mutual agreement. You do have to shoot to join, But its only $40 a year and a short class on the rules the first time you join.

The Tippmann looks a lot smaller once you see it with a person next to it.
I do agree that it would look cool with wagon wheels. Maybe someone will do that.
If you just want to talk size/bore check out the Hotchkiss 37mm Gatling Cannon! That's about a 1.5 inch bore.
37mm next to a S&W M-19 (Sorry, I don't own the cannon just the dummy round.)

Ours used to be like that, unfortunately with a county population close to 300K we get our share of knuckleheads. Now that we are just about the only outside game in town its gotten busy, membership is way up, we are again operating with a surplus, after putting on a new roof other expenditures last year.

DemolitionRanch over at YouTube had one of their insane vids shooting one from a moving minivan:
There's another set of vids of one guy in Montana (maybe?) who bought one and does some real tests on it. Can't find them ATM.
