Default 32 long/H&R Options

Looking for suggestions for used/new models in 32/327. Yes I know about the 327 LCR but would prefer a 2-3" barrel. I would like it to handle 32 H&R i.e. I don't plan to shoot 327. Used S&W that are reliable models would be fine.

On paper, the Charter Arms Professional 32 H&R seems ideal but they don't seem to exist in the real world. Maybe the SP101 in 327. I've been watching used S&W 31-1.

Thanks

If I couldn’t find a Smith in 32 the Ruger may be a gun I’d consider.

I only have one 32, a 16-4. What a gem and it’s so accurate and pleasant to shoot. I have fun looking for reloading components at LGS and gun shows. Picked up two 100 count boxes of Hornady 60 gr XTPs as part of a gun show trade - the seller thought my request a little odd, but he agreed to include them in the deal. A little light for the 32 magnum but they should still poke holes in empty beer cans. I’d love to find a 632-2 pro.

One LGS has a Charter Professional in the case. It's a nice revolver, but the trigger is h-e-a-v-y!

The 431PD and 432PD both make excellent carry revolvers and handle the 32 H&R easily. They are not easy to find, but will fill the bill when you do.

The 16-4 is the ultimate 32 H&R, and could be easily reamed out for 327 if desired. It is an outstanding K Frame, and is very accurate.

I had a 31-1 in Long, I had planned to ream it out to H&R Mag, but never got around to it. After a nice 36 came along, I traded the 31 to my best friend for an Model 1896 Safety Hammerless. He reamed the 31-1 to H&R Mag and loves it!

Personally I prefer 32 WCF to H&R mag, because there are more carbine options, but Marlin made 1894's in H&R Mag But try finding anyone that will sell theirs! (A SASS friend bought 2 of the 1894's and 4 of the Ruger single actions for his daughters when they were born and those are the only ones I have ever seen!)

My LGS in Southwest Virginia has the Charter in stock. PM me if you want his contact info. Not sure if he will ship or not. He does do transfers for me.

Default 32 H&R magnum

The older charters are uncommon 6 shooters.
The new ones are 5 shot. Soft shooting round.

while not really a carry option .. the ruger Single-Seven is a hoot of a 32 option. I shoot 32 H&R mostly out of mine but it handles the 327 without a problem (other than small gun high speed bullet physics )

mine is a 3.75" birdshead style

Here are our .32s- a Seecamp, CA Undercoverette for the wife, Ruger Bisley Single Six and S&W 631.

If you can find a 631, they are perfection IMHO...

I have a pre 31 that is a joy to shoot. In 32 H&R I own a ruger ss and a CA Professional. The DA pull on that is working in much better, SA was very controllable from the start. I am not a fan of the sights but am understanding them more. @ 25 yards I put the front sight to cover the bull and the rear as if it were on a 6 O'clock hold. Throats on that are even with all 7 0.314, Ruger is 0.312. For pure target shooting the Pre 31 beats them both.

I've got a CA Professional on its way so we'll see how that goes.

My 31-1 is very accurate and fun to shoot. I can hit better with it than other J frame snubs.

I carried it for a while, but eventually switched to a 431PD which is lighter and shoots 32 H&R.

With the 31-1 I carried Buffalo Bore wadcutters.

I carried the BB 155gr RNFP as a reload.

I own a 432PD like the one pictured in H Richard post here and it is a great carry pistol. It's also very accurate.

The pistol on the bottom in this picture is a 632-1 with a 3" barrel in 327 Mag. They also come in the black finish like the 432PD. The 632-1 are a bit hard to find and can be pretty expensive these days.

I think either the 431 or 432 would be the way to go if looking for a S&W.

I have a 332ti that is a great pocket revolver. Very light, slips in you pocket and you hardly notice it is there. Hard to find and pricey these days I expect.

I have a 332 and a Model 31-1 with a spare cylinder bored to 32 Magnum. One to carry, one to shoot. I love the 32s.
