Default Impulse Knife Purchase PAL RH36

A while back I got an Ithaca WW2 M1911A1 from the local gun shop and a WW2 Mark 2 Camillus knife from someone on the Forum:

The above Camillus has been my only "collectable" knife for quite some time. But recently I felt compelled to get another WW2 knife and I scarfed up a PAL RH36 on an online auction:

Does this mean I'm doomed?

In WWII The US Military bought larger numbers and more different knives than anytime before or since.

Yes, you are in trouble. Knives, like guns, are very addictive. Ask me how I know. Go ahead, ask.

Some impulses are OK. If you get the impulse to start collecting YUGO automobiles you should maybe resist that one.

Those PAL knives are great knives. My father-in-law gave me his that he carried in WW ll. It would be great to be able to listen to the 'stories".

You know for years I only collected military surplus rifles and I felt content with only acquiring their associated bayonets.

Then I started collecting M1917, Victory, and Commando revolvers.

Which eventually turned into "That PAL U.S. Navy general purpose knife would display very nicely with my U.S. NAVY marked Victory examples."

And that eventually turned into "That WWII Camillus USMC Kabar style fighting knife would display ver nicely with my WWII'ish refurb'd M1917 examples."

And that also turned into "That LF&C 1918 trench knife/knuckleduster would display very nicely with my all-original WWI M1917 examples."

Unfortunately I will require locating an original scabbard for my LF&C knuckleduster..........and they are harder to come by and expensive when found. There are repro scabbards out there but where's the fun in that?

I have pretty much resigned myself to also "needing" a WWI era bolo example as well as the triangular spike style WWI era knuckleduster...........and whatever else knife "will display very nicely" with my WWI and WWII U.S. military revolvers!

Yeah I'd say it's safe to stick a fork in ya...........yer done.

PAL RH36.......growing up that was my woods knife. Strap it on and head out. Chopped lots of stuff with it. When my dad and I went surf fishing it served as the fish knife. I grew up realized that it had some value. Still have it along with the fishing memories with my Dad.

I had my grandfathers pocket knife. A 3 bladed PAL. My dad used it for his small game field knife. It had Red scales made of some kind of plastic material. It was suppose to have a different kind of steel in each blade. My dad gave it to me and I carried it everyday through elementary school. I just gave it to my nephew a few years ago. Always held a good edge. This knife would have been bought pre WW2.

I have 2 of them , they are great knives . Will take a razor edge and hold it as long as any blade I ever owned . For a fighting knife the guard sucks other than that they can't be beat .

Found another
PAL RH 35 Mark 1

As I will not be storing a knife in a leather scabbard I negotiated a substantial discount off the asking price by not taking the scabbard, which was USN marked but the clasp was broken.

I am waiting to receive the above Mark 1

This is what is in hand so far:

Default Not a Knife

There are some really sweet WW II knives in this thread. This one is a Case #5 machete. Very sharp.

The USMC KABAR knife is a good knife, but, it's too big. My dad, who was a Marine, said the same thing: "it's too big. It's built for a guy who's 6'1" and I'm not that big" (he was 5'8"). The military goofed. They made the KABAR too big. Shave 1 1/2" off the blade and 1 1/2" off the handle and it's right. The "Short KABAR" is perfect for Joe Average.
