Default What basic firearms do you not see in your area?

What "basic" firearms do you NOT see often in your area? I'm talking pre-covid/pre-election hysteria before EVERYTHING became scarce.

In my area you rarely, if ever, see a Ruger Security Six/Service Six. People that have them keep them.

Another pistol that you don't see (one of my favorites) is an all steel Kahr K9/K40. Not sure if people keep them or if they never caught on.

If I was shopping for firearms I guess I could answer but when I go into the LGS I just meander around and if I see a gun I really want, well, okay but, otherwise, I simply pay no attention to most of what I see. I basically have what I need and want, I cannot replace the collection that I mostly liquidated due to water stains (and every gun sold at a decent price at the LGS) so I shoot what I have when I can get out there and pay no attention to what's in the store. My LGS always has a large amount of rifles of all kinds, some really nice ones, some average, but not too many handguns. Next time I meander in I'll try to fixate on what's in stock.

Semi Automatic handguns. Stopped into Cabelas yesterday after placing an order for 28 gage and 410 tubes for my Beretta 686 12 gage. Wanted to see if they had any 410 or 28 gage shotgun presses in stock. Nope to that, will either order from MEC direct or take a drive down to Ohio to visit the Fin. Took a look at the gun counter in Cabela's while I was there and the only semi's I saw were some distinctly overpriced used Kimber's. Seriously, what fool will pay over 1500 bucks for a USED Kimber. Sadly this is the metro Detroit area so I expect they both sold before closing yesterday. As for the rest of their handgun selection, did see some used S&W revolvers from a distance and they had half of one case devoted to Uberti 1873 SA revolvers. BTW, I find Cabelas's policy of roping off the gun counters has given me even more incentive not to shop at Cabela's.

Single barrel .410 shotguns are scarce as hens teeth, and have been. Everybody wants one to teach a child, and they ain't been around for years . . .

May not be exactly what you want, but if you are near an Academy store.

Recently down at Sportsman's Warehouse saw a cutesy 410 Double.
It sort of stood out, because the Shotgun rack was nearly empty.
Forget the Brand, import from somewhere!

I didn't say I wanted one. I was just answering the question. And there is an Academy near me, but when I click on the link inside the listing, I see that there are two available "near me.". One 100 miles away, and one 200 miles away . . .

In central IL there's never been a good selection of used revolvers. Even ones from the 60's to 90's. Anything that qualifies C&R would be ultra rare here. Basically if you see one ..... you'd grab it or do without.

Not a lot of high powered rifles here either but think that's mostly due to IL being shotgun only for whitetail deer.

And you never see things like a Ruger Red Label or any shotgun in .410 or 16 gauge.

Which makes me wonder ...... how'd I accumulate so many guns?!

I typically don't shop at LGS for firearms. I do use them for transfers, ammo, and their excellent indoor range.

If I'm seeking something, to the internet I go, or to local/state gunboards. After that, it's just a question of what they're asking.

Just my $.02.

We still Ruger P series pistols at times, but Security Six and Blackhawks are rarely seen.
Colt and Dan Wesson revolvers are rare to see.
FEG Hi Powers have dried up around here too, but the PA63 still shows up. I wish it was the other way around.

Don't go to LGS very often. Mostly gun shows. Don't see much blue steel and walnut, mostly polymer. few revolvers of any sort and no Colts at all. Like I said above, mostly polymer. Even the used guns are polymer and the real blue steel revolvers are priced too high.

I never see any Remington 788 rifles or 1100 shotguns. Very few Smith and Wesson older revolvers or Colt revolvers. Don’t even see the 70’s vintage H&R revolvers or single shot shotguns.

I see very few Ruger Security Six/Speed Six revolvers on the used market. Ruger made a ton of them, but those that own them seem to hang on to them.

Ditto on the Security Six. last month I bought the only one I've seen in years.
In my area Colt revolvers are mighty thin. You might see an occasional overpriced Python, but very little else.

Here you don't see many S&W Model 28s with 4" barrels. Plenty of 6" barrel one though. Not many Ruger Blackhawks either.

I want to buy a shooter grade S&W 357 or 44 Mag or spcl. A buddy talked me out of me last good 'shooter grade' one (M29-2); that I would use on occasion for deer hunting if in thick brush.

Well, due to 'all things 2020' I can't seem to find one. Our shared hobby is an education and like any education, it costs money and time.

Been there done that on other brands and they are all fine in their own regard, I just like what I like. Most of the gun shows been cancelled and now with a popular arms trading, classified website charging and use down, I guess I will just make do.

Same here, largely a result of our sparse population. If it wasn't for that Darnell fellow in Pahrump who passed about 14 years ago there would be even less.

I’ve been looking for a decent Model 14 around here for a few years now, you just don’t see them come up for sale around here.

I haven't really seen any pre model anything. The oldest gun I've run across is my 1948 K22 and that was years ago.

Currently my LGS is flush with guns. He's got a S&W M14, M28, several J frames, a handful of old Colt revolvers (no snake guns), a million Glocks, a shelf of 1911s, etc. He's even got a CZ75 Rami.

He has restocked most of his ammo but still doesn't have any 380 besides hollow points.

What seem to be sold out everywhere are Mossberg Shockwaves and Keltec KS7s. I guess small shotguns are the home defense weapon of choice, but I would think most folks would opt for a full size gun. I guess I'm wrong as he still has some full length shotguns.

One thing that has changed since the pandemic started is his prices have crept upward. I bought a Blue Label Glock 26 from him 3-4 years ago that was "used" but unfired in box for $400. Last Friday, he had a truly used G26 marked $475. He has a beat to heck Luger for $1500 and a P38 in about the same condition for $900 (I didn't look at those, maybe they are collectible). His revolver prices used to be very fair, but even before the pandemic he started edging them up to where I'm not interested - if memory serves he had $700 on that M14 and even more on the M28. He does have a nice 3" M37 (it might be a M36, can't remember) for $550, and that one tempts me a tiny bit.

Even pre Apocalypse, it was unusual to see a DA Colt revolver or Ruger Security Six for sale around here.

Pre 80's S&W revolvers and H&K USP pistols. Some of the SIG models (pre striker) are also becoming scarce. I'm buying those discontinued P model Sigs when I find a good deal. Just picked up a P-239 on another forum. Score one for me.

I wouldn't call the shops here loaded, but there is a selection of everything new around. At a glance there were guns in every other spot in the display rack has a gun the other day. Takes something odd to trip my trigger anymore.

I don't see (thankfully) the quantity and quality of S&W 1st-3rd generation pistols that I did a few years ago.

Same here. One LGS had a few nice old Smiths - a model 17 6” and a nickel 3” pinned 36. I stop by there quit frequently. I would say their shop is getting back to normal. A month ago pickings were few and far between.

Another thing you don't see a lot of is Ruger GP100s. Would love to have a 3" or 4" half-shroud GP100, stainless.

For those looking for certain (single shot .410's etc) and older firearms, check out your local auctions. There are probably a couple auctions every week in your surrounding area. Often there are several firearms listed, and once any auctioneer finds out how well firearms sell they they sometimes have a full estate of 20-50 firearms.

We now have for the past several years two auctioneers that specialize in firearms. One in particular will have about 500 per auction (currently on line only due to COVID), and he plans 3-4 auctions per year. He is also the avenue through which I have disposed of many of my collection.

Up until the collapse of the economy in about 1980 the used racks were full of everything and anything you could think of. I remember in handguns we were getting S&W and Colt .32 revolvers faster than we could sell them. The H&R 22s were common and worth practically nothing. In long guns the lever actions were slow movers and single barrel shot guns were dogs. Now all this stuff is collectors items.
The Rust Belt got hit hard and for a few years buyers from cities bought up all the good stuff and it’s now out of the area.

Winchester lever actions of any model are rarely found on gun store racks in my part of the world. Haven't seen a Savage 99 in ages.

I haven't seen any varient of an Uzi in-person at a show or at a gun store since the '90s... and I haven't seen any Uzi magazines for sale locally in a long, long time either.
