.50 BMG Timing Gage
Howdy Folks,
I came across something odd that I cannot explain why I have. I was going through a box that I have had for quite some time (maybe over 10 years +) trying to minimize my stuff.
I saw a small green rubberized pouch (very military) at the bottom of a this box. I open the snapped cover and discovered a .50 BMG Timing Gage.
For the life of me, I cannot recall why I would have this. My grandfather was in WWII and he gave me a Italian Carcano Rifle but this Timing Gage has me baffled.
Could this have been my dads? He gave me alot of stuff before he passed, I would have surely recalled this item.
Anyway... I googled this and they seem to be out of stock in the sites that I clicked.
Is this a find that is popular with the military 50 BMG shooting crowd or just a run of the mill item?
Inquiring mind wants to know as I continue to dig deep in my memory banks.
thank in advance

That's not a WW2 pouch. It would canvas.
It's militaria, a collectable.

ok thanks
the gages show wear or use. My dad was in the Air Force in the late 50s, I think 55ish time frame.
Would that rubberize pouch be correct for that era?

I should've been clearer, it's post war - at least the pouch is. Maybe, Vietnam? Canvas pouches were issued all the way into Vietnam. I don't know, I can't recall seeing a pouch like that to say for sure.

thanks
The pouch was very dirty on the inside. It looked like fine dirt. I was worried since there was small specs of tarnish on the main gage, there was rust adhered to the inside of the pouch, however it was just very dirty.

My dealings with US military pouches say that is Desert Storm or newer (OR Might be foreign). Most of the old timers, kept their "expendables", you just never knew when you might need to time a Browning M-2! The cooks in my best friends unit were the M-2 gunners (Artillery Battery) He was a supply guy and issued himself a 1911 (no A1) and a M-60, but had to qualify on the M-2 also. I had a few M-2 barrels that were shot out in my barn for years.

M2 gauge would have been for guys involved with guns firing from solenoids. Such as Quads or other remotely fired applications. I don’t remember and pouches but still have my gauges for barrel, go & no go, as well as feeler gauges for firing solenoids.

It's both headspace and timing gauge. Unless you have an M2 Browning you probably wont need it but neat item to have. I confess to having kept one also.
