Weatherby 75th Anniversary
Weatherby celebrates 75 years of history this year and I'm absolutely proud to be supporting this business and with that the Weatherby family.
If you are interested, here is their newest podcast;
And here are some films Roy Weatherby Sr. made;
Great products for sure, rich history, made in USA and having lived the American dream. Roy Sr. went though a lot of ups and down but in the end he followed his heart and look what happened. Great American Company!

A great story with firearms, and ammunition, but I do not think that they were all made in America. There wire rifles made in Germany, and the Athena ond Oeions were made in Japan

Indeed, I was focusing too much on the Mark V action and worded that wrong. The Mark V was brought to the US in the late '90s. The Vanguard and shotguns are still made overseas.
Nevertheless, great American company!

When I was in high school and my 20's, the dream of owning a Weatherby was out of reach financially.
I'm proud to say now I own a couple of their German made Mark 5 Deluxe rifles; one in 257 and the other in 340 Weatherby Magnum.
You really have to own and shoot them to appreciate what they are.
Thanks for posting the videos, very nice.

This is not word for word but at 1:40 in the third film he said with this caliber you can shoot a animal anywhere in the body and it will die a painless death.

The Mark V action was actually mfg’d by Pacific Forgings in CA from 1958-59, prior to the mfg move to Sauer in Germany, approx 2k or so were made.

I've always loved Weatherby rifles. I've owned a few in different models and calibers, but eventually sold them off. I did, however, keep just one....MADE IN AMERICA Mark V Accumark in Spgfld 30.06. I just have an affinity for the 30.06 cartridge for some reason. Happy 75th Weatherby!

True that. Unfortunately the early castings had quality issues and couldn't be used for the high pressure cartridges. That was for the early MK V, prior to that they've been made by Schultz & Larson as well as Sako using a Mauser action.
The MK V later then went to Sauer, then Howa until in the mid- or late '90s they were being brought back to the U.S. by Roy Jr. and barreled actions are being made by ATEK in Minnesota.

I’ve been passively searching for one of those early Mark Vs myself.

Had two paper routes and worked in Dads gas station Bought My first in 1958. Wish I still had it. Had all the original calibers at one time or another except the .270. Always wanted a .270, but when I found one My old Buddy reminded Me I had half the US supply of .300 stuff and no .270 stuff. My current .300 is pictured and it goes elk hunting and gets dragged through the snow and mud. But very gently. Also have a .340 in a Magnum Research mountain eagle rifle.

Another good reason for supporting Weatherby is they
moved out of California!

OK, saw the video; learned a lot. Sheridan, WY.
That is a really good video.
About 1980, I profiled the MK XXII in, Guns. I wanted to buy the test gun, but my then-wife disagreed. Weatherby did send me a Lucite cartridge block, so guess they liked the article.

My EDC big game rifle is my Weatherby Vanguard chambered in 300 Weatherby Magnum with built in muzzle brake. I love this rifle and couldn't imagine parting with it, although the brake makes the rifle insanely loud. I traded a WASR-10 underfolder for it a few years ago, which at the time was a killer trade. I have mine outfitted with a Nikon Prostaff 5 2.5-10x50mm BDC reticle scope with a sunshade, and what really tops the gun off is a nickel plated Timney trigger tuned to about 1.5#. I keep it loaded with 180gr Norma Oryx which are screamin hot.
I'll try to post pictures. It almost feels too nice to carry in the woods, but I do anyway

Does that blaster pretty much cook deer as well as kill them?
I once spent a couple of hours in Herb Klein's Dallas office, discussing Weatherbys and his safaris. Fascinating, and he was very kind and informal to a young airman on leave.
Alas, I couldn't afford a Weatherby then and bought a Husqvarna .270, being a fan of Jack O'Connor's writing.
I really prefer Winchester M-70's, but would still like to have a Weatherby or two.
By the way, the Vanguard seems to many to resemble Sako designs, probably a good thing.

Keep an eye on RIA, they'll pop up at times... unfortunately they demand a premium + usually 18.5% buyers premium + shipping.

They put them all on VHS back in the day and offered them for sale.... hard to find these days. If they offer them on DVD they'll get my money for sure.

It's made by Howa and uses their action. Some Vanguards are offered in WBY chamberings, that makes it very appealing to people that want a true WBY but the Mark V is out of budget. The Vanguard has been around since the '70s and I think it was a very good move.
Check this site for the next several days:
https://weatherby.com/75th-anniversary/
Wonder what they have coming. It's not going to be an Anniversary rifle but I'm sure it's something good!

My old stand-by is a 1961 German Mark V in .270 Wby. Has a 24” Douglas bbl and an old Redfield scope. Prob the most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned.
