Default New Auto Mag company

It took them a long time to get it up and running, but the New Auto Mag Company is now in production and started shipping guns last Wednesday from their shop in South Carolina.
I was able to purchase the first two out the door. They are much nicer than I expected. I have not shot them yet.

Those look pretty cool! Thank you for posting. I seem to recall a few years ago they were taking deposits for orders to generate working/strart-up capital, but that may have been another firm. Let us know how they shoot.

I remember one being chucked into the woods after one too many malfunctions back in the day... it was made clear before it got launched... so not a safety issue... just a piece of junk back in the late 70's... I assume they are better now... looking forward to the range report

A friend of mine bought one in the early '70s. I once vaporized a snapping turtle with it at 50 yards.

I owned one of the originals, back in 1974. It was real hard to get one that would fire a complete magazine without jamming. I went through mine, smoothing up problem areas, like the chamber. Mine was rough! After doing this, I could USUALLY get it to fire 5 rounds in a row, without jamming. The one I had was in .357AMP and shot like a rifle. Like a fool I traded it off in 1978. I did kill 12 whitetails with it, over the years I had it.

The Company took nearly five years to get into production from the initial buyout of the Sanford Family. The old guns were very temperamental and most needed work to get them reliable. The old magazines were not good either.

The new owner spent the time and money to make them right I think. They just completed a 5000 round reliability and wear test on a production gun successfully with the full power 44 AMP loadings, The picture of the guy firing the gun is part of the test.

I plan on getting out next week to give it a try. They are expensive but as a collector I own a lot of them and these are the best buy for the money invested in my opinion.

Wow! That was an awesome pic in the factory! The Achilles heel for this gun/company is going to be the calibers: 44 AMP & 357 AMP.
Does anyone make a factory loading anymore? I understood the factory loadings became quite collectable as well.
I believe you can make them from .308/30-06 brass but some folks who purchase these fine firearms are going to want to shoot them. I understand a portion of folks are collectors and wouldn't dream of shooting theirs. Personally, that flame coming out of the muzzle makes me want to go shoot my DE 50AE !

No, but if you do want to reach and touch your target with the barrel, I'd recommend a Dan Wesson 357 Magnum with a 15 inch barrel. Not my revolver, I just never saw the need for anything longer than an 8 inch barrel, but they are out there.

Well that's good news! I was following that for a while, even contacted the business but wasn't too confident they'd get it off the ground.

Really need a range report Beemer. From what I heard they made a number of reliability improvements over the original AMT design.
If it's as good as they say, I'd be in for one.

I must have gotten a good one, as mine is fairly reliable- but I could use a spring replacement.

You can still get brass, or make it out of .308 IIRC. A number of smaller reloaders make completed ammo as well. I get mine from Ron Reed at Reed's Ammo.

Starline has been selling 44 AMP brass for close to 20 years. You just run the 44 brass into the sizing die to get 357 brass.

SBR is loading ammo and Corbon loads infrequently, I do not know if they have any right now or not.

The Company is only making 44 AMP's right now but plans to move into the 357 AMP stuff and then into 45 Win Mag.

I would buy one but the chances of them becoming available here in California by being on the approved handgun roster are about nill.

If you have to ask how much it costs, then perhaps...
Like me, you cannot afford it or are not willing to spend that much on a semi-auto pistol.

Ammo should not be a problem. Starline makes .44AMP brass, and to make .357AMP brass, you just run it into the .357AMP sizing die, and then you have .357AMP brass. That's the way I did it for mine. And, there is plenty of loading date for both rounds out there.

The only one I ever saw was at Woolworth's in the NW Ar mall in Fayetteville Ar in 1974 they had a very knowledgeable sporting goods manager, the price was about 350 dollars and I think you had to make your ammo. Jeff

That's cool, but where do you buy ammo for it? .44 AMP is a dead cartridge, so unless they plan on offering it themselves or are otherwise expecting folks to make their own ammo from scratch, they'll need to be rechambered in something more common.

I would like to see them revive the Automag III in .30 Carbine.

Or better yet, the Automag V in .50AE!

Starline makes the brass to hand load.

SBR is making the ammo and it is good stuff.

Corbon has been loading the AMP cartridge.

44 Auto Mag (44 AMP)

Beautiful gun!!

Wonder if they will be available in the very rare .41 AutoMag caliber.... I have an IMI made Desert Eagle with 6 and 10 inch barrels and would like to have a AutoMag just because I like .41s....

The 41 JMP (Jurris Magnum Pistol) never caught on and their are probably about 200 pistols around chambered for it. There is not much interest in the caliber other than collectors.

Lee Jurris was marketing the Auto Mags when Remington brought out their 41 mag and was doing a lot of promotion work on it. Lee decided to go ahead with the 41 JMP in case it caught on.
