Default Colt Woodsman match target

I am sure there has been many threads on this model gun here but I just had to come have another discussion and show off mine that I just got off Gunbroker. This is proof there are still good deals out there online to be found. Mine was advertised by seller for starting reserve of $700. The reason I believe there were no bidders was because seller never bothered to clean the gun for pictures. I am a master at seeing potential in pictures. My gun is a 3rd series version made in 1956. In 1955 and 1956 the rear Accro sightblade had a rounded front to it, after 1956 the blade had a squared off shape to front of blade. This gun is completely original with black plastic grips, original box and instruction sheet. There were many changes made throughout the years and the match target 1st and 2nd series with wooden grips is usually the sought after models and the high prices of them reflect this. I think the 3rd series are the bargains still out there. In the 60's Colt went back to wooden grips so the are few different looks to the 3rd series guns. I had one other bidder that seen the gun's potential and bid at end but I ended up winning auction at $735. I was very happy and knew it would clean up nicely and are usually sold for over $1000 with original box. The gun still has the original magazine with a metal follower shaped unlike reproductions and just these mags. sell for over $100. The gun is not perfect and was used some but never abused. I also have a Pre Woodsman so I know the guns are excellent shooters so I am excited to go try it out. Thanks for looking and please show me some pictures of your 1st, 2nd or 3rd series Colt Woodsman match target guns.

Happy to pay what you have in it, if your disappointed! Always wanted a match target for the collection but most days, like you mentioned, they are priced a little high for me. $700-$800 though would be totally acceptable! Nice purchase OP!!

I've had both an early '50s Woodsman MT and a late '50s Model 41 for a long time. Both guns shoot very well as one would expect but the Woodsman has a much better natural feel and "pointability" in my hands than does the 41.

Nice pistol, good catch. I had one years ago in the box. Shot it for a while then sold it when I got another pistol. A friend has it now and he likes it a lot.

Yeah, back in the day when craftsmanship mattered.

My birth year 1952 2nd generation Match Target,
wouldn't even consider putting a price tag on it.

You got a great deal. Im in to this Second Generation for $1,200 and do not regret it for a single second. Fabulous piece. This one has been used and I am happy as I will use it for some frog hunting.

Good job! I tried to buy one locally a couple of months ago but the fellow wouldn't take less than $1200 for it.

I like them too. Here’s my faux 1st series from parts that I found. I say faux because it has the standard internal trigger and sear not the hand fit real 1sr series MT internal parts. Still turned out nice.

You are going to love shooting that pistol!
Here is the one I own. It's from 1938 and has the King conversion bits on it.http://smith-wessonforum.com/attachm...1&d=1610345569
