Winchester 94XTR
I've been telling myself that I didn't need any more firearms, especially long guns but once in a while a deal comes up that one just cannot ignore. That's exactly what happened to me when I was offered a really pristine (1979) Winchester 94XTR 30/30 for $300. I already have a real nice 9422 and this will complete a great pair of carbines.

I always wanted a rifle length in 7x30 Waters, Remember Robert Conrad using one on the TV show, High Mountain Rangers?? I wanted one before, and never lost the bug. Maybe I will consider selling a Marlin to fund one. Not sure I can part with it though. Now that Ruger owns the name, Remington before that, my JM marked one is special to me.

That's a great deal at twice the price...Check 9422 prices for an eye opener...I recently bought a real nice 99%+ XTR for $990 OTD, and happy to get it!

As soon as I can find some brass, I'm going to load some of the new Hornady FTX 150 grain projectiles and see how far we can reach out with them. Will also need to get with my friend in Reno and take him and his 94 to the Pyramid range complex where we can really reach out.

They're not cheap, here's my (1975) 9422 that I picked up in July of 16 for 675.
The old eyes aren't what they used to be so I dressed it up with a Redfield 2-7X scope.

Your XTR is likely selling at auction these days for no less than 500 bucks and more likely 700 bucks. I love lever rifles and used to have quite a few of them but my interest in handguns overshadowed my rifles so I let most of them go except my Navy Arms M92 in .45/c (cowboy action rifle) and I still have a pre-USRAC M94 30-30 that I bought nearly 40 years ago. I used it deer hunting way back when. 94s are just delightful rifles!
Hmmmm.....I almost forgot, I still have a rebarreled M94 from early or mid 20th century in .25-35, flatest shooting rifle I ever fired (no picture) and this M94 Big Bore in .375 Winchester.

And I found this interesting comment on the Winchester website:
It may seem like the opposite of today's MSR, but lever actions have a lot in common with today's modern sporting rifles. 110 years ago our ancestors bought 94s because they were cool, fun to shoot, fast handling and had high magazine capacity. Sound familiar. As for us, we are certain the Winchester Model 94 is one of the most amazing rifles ever made.

Just hope you didn't hurt your hand getting the money out of your pocket. I know I would have been in danger myself at that price.

Looks fantastic. Heard the XTR line was an improvement over the post 60s like the one I bought in 73. Think I paid around $100 for it new. Still had walnut but that sintered steel receiver turned most gun lovers off along with whatever changes were made. Thanks to all who posted some fine looking rifles.

Great deal on a nice rifle. Those XTR's were a big step up quality wise from the earlier post 1964 model 94's.

I bought a Winchester XTR when they first came out in the mid 80's. I can't remember what caliber it was, but I think it was an odd one to me, like .307 or .356. I ended up selling it after about a year to pay bills. I remember it being a nice looking gun, with nice checkered wood stocks.
