New Charter Arms 'The Boxer'
NO pics yet, but here's a vendor link...
CHARTER ARMS THE BOXER REVOLVER .38 SPL. ANODIZED FULL GRIP SINGLE 2.2 IN 6 RD
| Bucks & Jakes Outfitters
Heck, it's not even on Charter's own site as of yet.
The action is quite respectable. It's only 'slightly' behind my vintage 12-2. However, lighter, and more svelte.
The optic front kinda leaves me concerned. I can't see how it's mounted, other than possibly glued. Also, the leading edge of the tube protrudes and is bent down to the barrel, which seems fragile.
Not yet had the chance to wring it out.

Revolver looks OK.
Price of the 22 magnum rounds is ridiculous.

Is the color on the finish and the front sight the only difference between the police undercover 73840?

Why does Charter call it a single action revolver?

They figure, as do I, that the last handguns to be confiscated will be single action non-magnum revolvers.

Looks like the grip frame and trigger guard are plastic, like the Pathfinder.

I’d take a Taurus 856 over that, easily.

I see no difference from this and their existing police undercover other than finish. Their newer 41 Mag and 45 Colt revolvers and 32 Mag Professional are more interesting to me.

Charter doesn't, the distributor does.
I have a CA Professional and the sight is fit into a machined on base. I woud prefer an iron sight but it's Ok.

My Boxer displays some of that wonky finish surrounding the ejector shroud as in the prior picture. The Taurus is definitely superior in finish. The CA's action is both smoother and lighter than the Taurus. With these two examples, much like comparing a decent K-action with a good J-action.

Your opinion on the Professional? Lot to like on paper about a light 7 round 3" .32 mag..

I sort of like it but it isn't a Smith.I found it in a local shop in July new stickered for $398.00. I returned it to the factory after the first range trip as the cylinder was locking up DA. They repaired and returned it in 6 weeks. Mine has an OK trigger but not outstanding. I have a Ruger SSM 32 mag and I shot a box of factory loads in it around 2008. This as my SSM has only seen cast loads. It groups well at 25 yards with 90-120 gr bullets. Of the three 32 revolvers I own the I frame Pre Regulation Police beats them all in target work.
To be on target with the Charter with my loads I have to put the green fiber sight over the rear blade at 25 yards, instead of even with it. It takes a mental reminder to do so or a couple of cylinders. In a self defense situation it would make no difference. Going to the range with a plan to make all the holes touch is not affected, only when trying to put them all in the X frame.
It has no side plate. the frame is pinned together and I have had no reason to remove it. There is nothing in the instructions about lubing it and I have not gotten around to asking as my climate of less than 10" a year moisture hasn't needed it yet.
So stuff to like and unresolved questions as well.

remain confused why Smith doesn't pursue a full .32 Mag model line...they've pretty much got everything else. Not everyone wants the ear drum busting hyper .327..
