Default Inherited PPK/s

I inherited this from a friend. It is a Walther PPK/s, made by S&W in Maine. Not sure if it was ever fired. Id the engraving acid etched? Value? Of course I will never sell it, just want to know more about it.

I always considered them an excellent design. Usually finicky on the type of ammo it likes. Mine seem to prefer ball only.

Yours is a unique example and looks great.

It is hard to tell from one small image, but that may be machine engraved, it might be hand engraved

That pistol might be worth anywhere from $600 for acid etched up to $1800 for some nice hand engraving.

Take some better photos and do not size them down for the internet and we will see if the Forum can get closer value for you

I think I am getting to the bottom of this. S&W produced for Talo a PPK/s premier lot of 400 with engraved slides that used standard grips with an eagle on the side.

They also produced 400 premier gold where the eagle on the side was gold and the grips were wood with a thumb rest.

Custom boxes were available. They are laser engraved

I will try to get more pics up. Now to find out value.

Walther Premier and Premier Gold Series PPKS — TALO Distributors Inc.

That is a very nice-looking pistol. As a bonus, you can use the magazine as a shaving mirror in a pinch. Will be curious as to what you learn about it. I take it for granted there will be no "range report" any time soon?!

I believe it to be unfired. I will keep it that way, so no range report coming

Very nice! Beautiful gun.

Think I would shoot it. To me, that won't hurt it one bit and its not for sale anyway!

I inherited, in 380, a PPK and PP both made in 1962. The PP came with its box too. Both are a joy to shoot!

I need to check with Talo to see when this was made

You're already way ahead just by finding it was made for TALO. They would probably be your best source of info.
I've tried to research my S&W made PPK/S-1 and run into a brick wall. These things are a red headed step child for both companies. Walther barely recognizes their existence. S&W claims records no longer exist.
Even SCSW only has one paragraph which simply states that S&W did make these from Approx 1999 to 2004. And these dates are in question as I've seen references to guns made up until the 2000 teens.

BTW: check to see if the safety recall has been done to this pistol. If it hasn't, NO NOT send it to S&W. Instead, send it to Walther Arms in Ft. Smith, Ark. They will do the repair, do it right and be much quicker than S&W. But then, if you're never going to shoot it, I suppose it doesn't mater.

You could post pictures of it on the Walther forum. Very well informed over there and you'll probably find out what you need to know over there.

I will look into this safety issue thing. I am not going to shoot it, but it will go to one of my 2 sons, so I want it safe. Thank you!!

I did a search on the Walther site for Talo guns. There's a bit of information there, a bit dated 2015 or so on a gun like yours. I don't think un-shot adds to the value of the pistol. It's a S&W.

I love Walthers, absolutely the most under rated gun. Sig got their "Slide de-cocker" design from Walther, which was later stolen from Sig by S&W, Walther did it first.
My meager (and growing) Walther collection.

UPDATE 1/27/21

I sent a completed web form off to Walther about the recall.

i got a reply and the guy asked for the serial number ( which he had), how many rounds have been fired through the gun, and what type of ammo was used.

I responded. I thought this was about a safety recall?. Gun looks unfired to me. and if I had to offer any comment at all it would be the excessive creep on the single action pull.

The response just seemed out of place to me

Sounds like you got a hold of the required company idiot. I'd call and ask to speak to someone in person.
All they ever asked me for was my e-mail addy so that they could send a shipping label.
Did you check your serial number against the list on the recall page? It may not need the recall.

Yes I did check it and it was one of the included numbers. 9071 BAC from memory

I collect Walthers. I received the recall from S&W. None of my Walthers have been fired, except for once at the factory. The PPK/S was brand new, I sent a note with it saying I wanted it back in the same condition as it was sent in. The pistol came back intentionally butchered up. Vise marks on one side, scratches all over. I contacted a supervisor at S&W. He sent me a mail label to return it, and I did. He called me and said when they started making them again, he would send me a brand new pistol with the recall done. A few months later, true to his word, I received a new PPK/S. No punch marks either. I own a lot of S&W guns. I was and still am disgusted with what they did. I hope they can trace who worked on my gun and fire them. After that I bought two new revolvers made by S&W, with no problems. There are bad apples in every barrel.

That's exactly the reason I say send it to Walther. You're not the only person to report getting a damaged gun back from S&W. Also wait time at S&W was ridiculous.
As I said, I sent mine to Walther Arms, Ft. Smith, Ark. They did an excellent job and had the gun back in 8 days. I couldn't have been happier with it.

Probably a set of questions to gain data on S&W pistols in general, not related to your individual pistol at all. Maybe so they can charge S&W $$$ for cleaning up their mess.
