Default Eezox as a rust preventative, who uses it?

It's been my Go To rust preventative for over 30 years and it has served well, above and beyond the highest expectations for me.

Who else uses this wonderful stuff?

I haven't, but it's been on my list of things to try. Right now I wipe my guns down with my lube of choice, Lubriplate, when I clean/oil them, and I also do periodic wipe-downs with Marine Tuf Cloth.

If my memory serves, it was number one in rust prevention
in a test that was widely publicized.

Eezox was one of the better performers in the test......Hornady One Shot, Frog Lube and WD-40 Specialist Long Term Corrosion Inhibitor came out as the top three.

I used it to wipe down the bore and lock on my Thompson Center Hawken black powder rifle. Did a great job.

I started using Eezox in 1986, and it's still the best rust preventative and storage lube I've ever found. Outstanding stuff! Can't recommend it highly enough.

I bought a small can of EEZOX a few years ago and still have a lot. A little goes a long way. It works flawlessly on my Ruger Mark series guns and my S&W revolvers.

I've been using Eezox for the past 15 years or so - as I recall - and still use it extensively. Been starting to ease Frog Lube into my rotation, too, and find it useful. And, I'm intrigued with its "food grade" ingredients and excellent reputation.

Cheers,
AQBill

No doubt a good product based on comments here but is it any better than many others? I've seen good results for the last fifty years or so giving guns a wipedown with a soft cloth impregnated lightly with whatever product I have on hand and that's been a variety. I do this after cleaning or at least annually if a gun hasn't been used.

Yes, it IS that good, especially the drying to the touch while still giving complete protection.

This is also to say your method has merit since it has worked well for you for 50+ years. Pretty much the same as I did before I became aware of Eezox. Especially the annual wipedown of unused guns. With the Eezox, the annual wipedown is not needed, just a quick glance/inspection.

Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

I keep a bottle of it around. I use it primarily on parkerized guns M1-A, .45s 03s GI type stuff. I believe that is what it was originally designed for. Wipe it on, and let it dry. It really clings to the rougher surfaces. The stuff is best used outside, especially to let it dry. It doesn't bother me much, but is actually makes my dad nauseous.

Question, does anyone use it in the bore for long term storage rust protection ? I put Eezox on a bore snake (soaked the Bore snake ) and ran it down the barrel for long term storage . Smart idea or use a different oil ?

A word of caution.
I used it on a case hardened Mod 40 trying to use the best product to protect the finish. When applying it, a coating on the revolver began to flake off. I believe this was a factory applied clear, that I didn’t know was there. I think the solvents in Eezox softened it.
Just my .02.

Sounds like I need to drink a can of this stuff! I never heard of it but I'll try anything that gets a lot of thumbs up from the Forum. Right now it's Ballistol. (Tasted terrible, BTW.)

Over on the Seecamp Forum, Eezox is highly touted. Being a Seecamp owner, I have tried it; it's OK and expensive. But all I use for overall lube, protection, etc. on all my guns is Hoppe's. I've used it for many years to satisfaction.

My Ballistol goes on thicker, and doesn't run quite as much.
But, Eezox is a decent solvent...and sometimes thick is not good.
You do have to go easy, and let it dry.

I put 2 coats IIRC and noticed flakes coming off on the second coat.
It only messed up the clear and not the CCH.
I haven’t done anything to it since other than keeping it oiled.

Thank you for your quick response . I am a new gun owner and like SW revolvers so I get super nervous about this stuff as I don’t have a lot experience. Can I ask what do you mean by CCH?

Some of the older guns, like Marlin for instance, put a factory clear coat over the case hardened finish. Renaissance wax is good as a protective coating on case colors. I also use CLP and haven't had any problems.

I am eventually going to strip the old clear off and rattle can it.
I’m never going to shoot it so it’s just going to protect the metal.

Thanks Guys, so reading basically it’s possible for Eezox to take off the clear coat because it’s a solvent but Eezox is very good for rust protection both inside and outside the gun(including bore)? Thanks in advance

I used to use it, as I heard it did a great job protecting from rust and I saw that guy’s test that was done on the various protectants. Long story short, I noticed one of my long term storage guns had some surface rust on it, so I stopped using Eezox. I had a similar experience with Renaissance wax, but most people seem to swear by it. I won’t store my guns with that anymore...

For long term storage, I use Frog Lube, or Riggs grease. I’ve not had any issues with either of those products. I also use Corrosion X a lot these days to clean (including the bore) and wipe down/protect my guns. I’m really happy with its performance, as well, and have not seen any signs of rust from storage. I found out about from some of the long range rifle shooters at my club.

It is very well liked and respected with rim fires. As a dry lube, it doesn't mud up like wet lubes.
