own 2. both p-14. one ltd. and one standard with 400 cor-bon barrel. like them both except aftermarket grips are a problem as 1911 don't fit and most don't like to make them for p-14 guns. shot the std. over 3500 times with warm loads and the ltd around 1500 with std. loads. the triggers are not always what you want though.

I have two of the 1911 LDA models. One is the original 7.45 LDA, the other is the newer 7.45 SSP (Super Sport Pistol?) in stainless. This is my current duty sidearm. The double action trigger is great, and it's a bonus to be able to use standard 1911 mags. I have never had any problems, save for a few instances where the newer gun failed to lock the slide back after the last round. However, it has not been shot much, and I'm guessing that's not unusual until it has loosened up a bit.
I like the Para so much I just bought the smaller model, the 6.45 LDA (Carry model), for an off-duty gun. It's the same size as the Colt New Agent. I've been too busy to get out to the range, but hope to go tomorrow (as I need to qualify on Thursday!).

I also own a LDA 7.45. Had one issue with the grip safety when it was new, returned it to the factory, fixed and returned to me in under a week.
I Love shooting that gun. My son bought the 6.45 and has had no problems. They are both very accurate.

I've owned 3; two P-14 Limiteds bought new and then a P-16 Limited, bought used.
Problems? The slide was soft on the 2nd P-14, to the point where the slide stop notch peened back and cut my thumb. Para re-machined and polished it.
I used the first P-14 for action pistol shooting and bought the P-16 for the extra capacity when I got more serious. I'd probably still be shooting it if I hadn't gotten access to an SVI.
Both Hogue and Pachmyer make grips for Paras; I used grips from each on my guns.
And it's Ordnance; not "ordinance."

Got to shoot my "little" Para today. Functioned flawlessly, slide locked back after every mag (even the $7 contract mags!), and all of my 1911 mags worked fine (as long as you don't mind them sticking out a bit; it will save me a fortune in spare mags for the range). It shoots a bit low, but nothing out of the ordinary. Not Para's fault, but I do notice that extra 2" missing from the sight radius!!!

Hi,
If it shoots low, try a heavier bullet ala a 230 grain, if you were shooting 185 or 200 grain stuff. That should move the impact point up for you.
I've not . . . you can always file the front sight a tad and cold blue.
I only have one Para. I bought it used recently because I always wanted to try the LDA trigger, since I've always shot my best pin matches with double action Smith revolvers, not 1911s.
It is a full-size 14.45 LDA Limited with Para's version of a Bomar rear target sight.
I got to shoot it recently (just standing and unsupported at 25 yards) but the results with cheap ammo were encouraging for the kind of accuracy potential this ol' slabside should produce.
Enjoy!
Tom
PS: Here's mine, and two 10-round 3" black targets shot standing, unsupported at 25 yards. Dang, don't ya hate those flyers that ruin a nice group?

I have bought the para little hawg recently. Function perfect except one mag drops after each shot fired. Believe it to be the plastic keeper on the bottom of the clip, needs material removed. Function great with kimber clips. I'm picking up a para ssp today, I like the looks of this one, weighs in at 40 oz, full grown 1911.
I'm impressed with the guns. Seems to be good workmanship etc.

Tom-
Thanks for the info. The front sight has the white dot, so I doubt I'll try to file it. Our duty ammo is 185 gr, so I'm kind of stuck with it. (I prefer the classic 230 gr!) A little "Kentucky windage" got me a qualifying score this afternoon.
GoNavy-
When I went to the range to qualify today, I found that one of my new factory mags wouldn't latch in the mag well most of the time, no matter how you inserted, pressed, or slammed it. Never had that happen before. I've emailed Para to see if they'll correct it, or if I need to go back to the store where I bought it. So far, that's the only problem I've had. (I did bugger-up the finish on one, but that was my fault. It was a sometimes-used off-duty gun. I left it in a case near my night table. It got pushed under the bottom shelf, and spent a while on top of the air conditioning vent on the floor. Oops! Ended up with some surface rust and discoloration on the backstrap and grip frame. Got the rust off and stopped with lots of oil, but now it looks like ****... not sure if I'm going to refinish it, or grin and bear it. It's now my "extra" Para in case one is out of service, or I'm involved in an on-duty shooting and the dicks take it and lock it up until the statute of limitations for all suits and appeals is over. Oh, joy!)

Dang, I was afraid you were shooting 185 grain stuff.
Not to worry . . . I suggest contacting Para and see if they offer a shorter height front sight option for your pistol. I'll bet they do . . . though they don't list parts on their internet site.
Or . . . you could go with a Para adjustable rear sight. Para has their own dovetail specs unfortunately, so if you go "aftermarket," make sure that the sight/sights will fit your pistol.
The also offer night sight versions too.

The original wide-body Para I had proved to be such a stressful relationship I divorced it and haven't looked at any of the new stuff...
