This is my Coonan “.357 Magnum Automatic”

Some may think this doesn’t qualify and I don’t mind.

Here's my favorite, a 9MM caliber Springfield Armory "Range Officer". Easily the most accurate pistol I own:

We get these threads every so often. But ya just gotta love the 1911.

My usual disclaimer: this is and old picture. I've added more since then.

I'm here to support the "house brand". Then a pic of a couple of Colts to appease the unwashed masses. SW1911 Pro Series 178017 9mm wearing Culina Walnut. Colt Competition Enhanced .38 Super, and custom Commander, electroless nickel .45.

I'm down to three, this is my latest, a Combat Commander 9mm purchased in 2017. It worked great, but there was enough looseness in the rear frame to slide fit and particularly the grip safety that I sounded like the Tin Man walking around.

So I sent it to Nighthawk Custom and had the frame to slide fit tightened, and one of their grip safeties installed. I also had them refinish it in their smoked nitride; some people consider it to be a "distressed" finish, but I don't - whether clothes, furniture, or guns, to me that means more signs of wear in certain places. NH's smoked nitride is an even, smooth, steel-gray. Some people don't care for it, that's okay by me, to each their own. It shoots even better now. I have a Wilson Combat CQB Commander also in 9mm; it's fitted better, and is more accurate. Given the price difference, that's as it should be. My hands prefer the Colt though.

It's funny, in the original polished blue I didn't care for the factory grips, and had a beautiful set of grips from Wood Caliber on them. After getting it back they didn't look right, to me, so I put the originals back on.

I have this one. Great shooter, glad I bought it. I wish could afford a real Colt, but the RIA is not a bad clone at all.

Was looking for “1” Colt series 70, 1911 and ended up with a few.
Have traded and ended up with one Govt model & two Commanders. All pre 80 and 45acp.

Even though we have had similar previous threads, you gotta love 'em.

Here are a few of mine. First, a Springfield Mil-spec in .45 ACP.

A Ruger 1911 in .45 ACP.

A Colt 1911 in .45 ACP.

And finally, a Springfield 1911 in 9mm.

Hmm, where to start??

Hard Chrome Les Baer UTC, now lives with my younger son

My old Les Baer Thunder Ranch, sold after 35k rounds +/- to a friend that still has it

A custom build by a former Green Beret Sgt. Major in the style he used, bought new by late member IBSandy and gifted to me by his widow in 2012-never to go outside my family. This one outshoots every other 1911 I've owned since 1978, that includes Wilson and Novak builds as well as my Baers.

Colt Gunsite

Dan Wesson A2 Commander with some improvements

Les Baer Thunder Ranch Comanche I bought my older son for his welcome home gift from his first deployment in 2006

I've got a thing for Les Baer's 1911s LOL, need to take a pic of my Custom Carry, stand by

And here's the Colt Gunsite with standard width grips which I prefer

And just to keep things S&W friendly with a Colt Gunsite Commander

Yes and other calibers, too. Anything JMB has had a hand in designing, I'm for it.

My 1911's and a couple of JMB's other contributions to handgunning, all in different calibers. The 1911 full size are top to bottom, RIA .38 Super; Ruger SR1911 10mm, SA ,45 Auto. On the right are SA EMP4 9mm, BHP MkIII .40S&W, Colt 1903 .32 Auto.

Okay....

My latest, a 1918 Colt Black Army 1911,

And a "1943" 1911a1 Custom Shop reproduction.

And, a Harrison tuned Combat Commander,

And a Colt 1991 Model O in factory bright stainless steel.

There are a couple of other Colt's but
I really need to dig them all out for a group shot.

All in God's intended caliber...45 acp.

I cut my teeth on 1911s at the age of 14 - now at 83, I've acquired a few.

These are my GI guns, interspersed with some service .45 revolvers and such.

And these are my personal favorites.

John

Here are a few of mine. My stepfather had been on a pistol team while stationed in Germany, so he started me on the 1911's when I was about 10 years old. I am especially fond of the Super 38 Commanders.

The AMT Hardballer typically has a well-earned reputation of being shoddy but most evidence suggests that AMT did better with the Hardballer Long Slide. This one in the picture is the first semiauto that I ever bought, I was 17, so Mom had to buy it. I’ve still got this one.

I picked up another a bunch of years ago and it was in higher condition. I took it out on one range trip and sent a box of ammo through it and then cleaned it and sat on it for a few years. When I finally offered it up on Gunbroker, someone really liked it (apparently two different guys really liked it…) and he paid $STUPID money for it.

Most of what you hear about AMT is probably correct, but these are interesting and enjoyable pistols.

Just have two. An all original WWII 1943 Ithaca 1911A1 and a reproduction 1942 Colt 1911a1 made by Colt Custom Shop in 2002 (you don't see many of these as they only made about 2,500). I was lucky to get it in 2008 off an online auction. This one is a WMK prefix serial number. Shown with my commercial S&W 1917. Second picture is the Colt reproduction in it's original box. I shoot it more often than the Ithaca which only comes out about once a year.

Lots of cool 1911's here, great post! I can contribute a couple strays. First is a 1975 Colt Gold Cup National Match with Culina American holly panels. Next is a Dan Wesson Valor commander. Last is a 1943 Remington Rand.

This one of my favourites. It was my retirement gift to myself when I retired in 2015.

It’s better than I anticipated with 8 actual 1911s in the thread.

This makes 9.

Carried, or perhaps better to say I wore a 1911 in Vietnam and Desert Storm. I have a number of versions of the 1911 platform, and here is my only true, full custom 1911. About ten years ago, wanted a full custom 9mm 1911, and contacted Bill L at Cylinder & Slide, who has done many of my pistols since 1990, when he built my first Browning HighPower. Wanted one for IDPA, and just told Bill to make it the way he thought best. This one is Fusion Stainless, Cerakoted black. The slide is lightened by milling excess steel, and has his components and a gold bead front sight, which is spectacular for picking it up in any light. Tuned with his spring suggestion. Has now some patina from thousands of holster draws. Like any proper custom 1911, the slide is like on roller bearings, smooth as glass, with a superlative trigger. Paid then I think $3,750 or so.

Many thousands of my reloaded 9mm down the barrel by now. The blade is a Randall, bought about 30 years ago at a gun show, since given to my son.

This pistol is not in my carry rotation.

As always, all the best.... SF VET

Yea!! I get to post in this one! This is a new to me this week SW1911 E-Series. So new to me I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. This is my first 1911, (soon to be followed by a CMP version, likely in May; a nostalgia trip for the first issued sidearm I carried).

Another E-Series showed up at a local auction 2 days after I picked this up. I came out $300 ahead for what the one at auction went for.

As much as I like S&W revolvers and semi-autos, I REALLY like 1911s.
