Default LGS Impulse Buy, Couldn't Pass It Up

While I was at my LGS waiting for the background check to clear for the 4056TSW, I looked around the shop.

And lo and behold, there was this Ruger KP95. Like new in the case. I mean like unfired.

Looked at it, had all the paperwork, fired cartridge dated October 2012, and the original sticker on the frame and mags.

$300.

SOLD!

Now, I'm not a huge polymer frame fan, and my experience with Ruger centerfire semi pistols has been hit and miss. But considering price and condition, I couldn't let it go.

At best, it rounds out my Ruger collection, at worst it's trade bait.

Either way, I'm happy.

Great score, and I would have snagged it too. The P95 series are proof that you can overbuild a plastic gun. I bought a used 95DC for $200 about four years ago and it is typical of the type, bulky, rattly and goes bang every time. Doesn't hurt that it's easy to rack and recoils softly.

I'm a big fan of the P95. When I sold mine in 2002 I regretted it every day since. Saw 6 or 7 in pawn shops and such the past 3-4 years but for some reason never bought one of them. Then a friend of a very good friend was selling a stainless P93 (basically same gun but an aluminum frame) and snagged it. Eats anything and everything, just like my P95 did. This time it will not be sold.

I think you got yours at a good price, especially in today's market.

I had a day that I went to a gun shop in Bucks County, PA. to look at a Colt TALO Lightweight Commander .45. PA is a fairly long state so it was a pretty lengthy drive over there. I took a look at the gun and ended up buying it.

Before I left home I decided to check to see if there were any other gun shops in the area, since it was a going to be a long trip. I knew there was another shop about 5 miles or so up the same road. It was a magnificent big shop. I decided to take a look at a NIB Smith & Wesson 629-6 that was in the case. Then the salesman said the shop also had a used one. I looked at that the used one and the lockup seemed better than the lockup on the NIB model, so I ended up buying the used Model 629-6 too.

That was an expensive trip.

$300 was a steal in my opinion. I have one like yours that I bought new back shortly after they came out. I read about a torture test of one with 20,000 rds of 9mm +P+ ammo with no problems and I was sold. A great gun that should still be made.

A friend's P89 got stolen and spent about a year outside in the woods in the San Francisco elements and when found, cleaned up just fine and functioned. Put me on to a bit of a search for one. I finally found a 9mm with a 30 Luger barrel version - ANIB for $400.00. Pretty clunky looking and handling guns, but the darn things always work and are typically "Ruger overbuilt".

Never been a fan of those chunky things, but my experience with them has been that of reliability.
