Silly weight chart, random .38/.357 revolvers

I was sitting at the kitchen table the other night, cleaning and tinkering with a few revolvers. I happened to notice a food scale left on the table and..well...nature took it's course.

The surprising take away for me was how very little weight difference there was between K frames, Security Six, and GP-100. The 586 was the most portly of the pile for obvious reasons. I love the smoothness and compactness of my K frames, and I love the nostalgia I have attached to them, but for similar weights, my DAO GP-100 will remain my go-to out of that pile. I just thought it mildly interesting. Figgered someone else might as well.


10-5: 4" tapered bbl. 29.49 oz no grips. 33.40 with target grips

13-2: 32.77 oz. 4" bbl. No grips. 36.08 With target grips

65-1: 32.20 oz with no grips. 4" bbl. 35.89 oz with Hogue wood monogrip

586: 37.60 with no grips. 4" bbl. 40.85 with S&W finger groove combat grips


Security Six. 4" bbl. 33.54 Oz no grips.

34.81 oz. With factory grips

Ruger GP 100 4" bbl. Half lug

35.14 oz no grips

36.72oz with factory grips

I would have thought the 100 would have taken the first prize ribbon, or last place if lightest was the goal.

Nice that you took the time to weigh with and w/o the grips.

I have done similar but with my ACP revolvers. They are all varieties of 4”, tapered barrels and run from 35.6 - 38.8 ounces.

There is a reason I like these revolvers.
