Default Weapons of Our Opponents, #1 Russia

I thought I would post a few weapons that are not commonly encountered. These are copied in the U.S. but this was acquired from my Russian friend who collects very high end Russian shot guns and knives. Employment of this knife is very limited within the Russian military. People in the know understand what units are issued this bad boy. In the hands of highly skilled soldiers it can be deadly, and it's quiet.

The next installment coming soon.

I remember going to gun shows a long time ago and seeing some deactivated ballistic knives for sale. Of course, all it would take to reactivate them was the spring. Never got one, though. I'm not sure, but I think I could probably carry one in my state. An interesting curio, to be sure, but not something I'd want to carry on me.

It is a Russian ballistic knife used by Spetsnaz (Russian special operators). It is VERY difficult to charge by hand, as the spring is extremely powerful. i would have to put it in a press to charge. The safety pin is an absolute necessity. Max range is probably about 7 yards. Comes in handy when one can't get close enough to the target to cut their throat. The guys that use them are highly trained and it's not something the inexperienced would want to rely on.

Once charged and the safety pin is removed, all it takes is thumb pressure on the locking levers (ambidextrous) to fire.

You could do the HK slap on it

Also...don't charge it while leaning over it.

There was also a Punisher movie, I think the actor's name was Thomas Jane, and John Travolta was in it, where the Punisher used one to take out a hitman after the hitman said something to the effect of, "What kind of idiot brings a knife to a gunfight?" SPROING!!!

This is what it looks like right before spring compression. It doesn't look like much to compress, but I can assure you...it ain't easy.

Spring looks beefier than a garage door spring.

It would be interesting to know the muzzle velocity. The last photo might have looked a little confusing, and dangerous. The blade is covered as shown here for charging.

BTW, my wife doesn't even like to be in the same room with it. She says "It's scary!".

I think I've seen them in one of my kids video games. That's probably where they mostly belong...

TIL what a ballistic knife is. There illegal to carry in my state, but not to possess on one's own property.

The Russian military takes knife fighting, seriously. In fact, there are many youth groups of a paramilitary nature, and knife fighting is taught there.

Looks like something that might be illegal to possess in those "more enlightened" bailiwicks, or soon will be.

A guy I used to work with years ago had a version of that and his did take a bunch of pressure to "cock". When it was released it one, actually had some recoil in your hand and two, penetrated 1/2" plywood at about 5'. I know it was a knock off of this type of weapon but it scared me just handling the thing.

One of my friends had one when we were active Marines and it too, shot right to the hilt through a 1/2” sheet of plywood and we used a bench vise to re-cock it.....
