I am a fan of CZ's Mauser type rifles, and own 3, now 4. I was at a small local dealers shop when I noticed this CZ 527 FS in .223 Remington on the bare shelves. They have not made that FS gun since 2018. I asked, and he said it was in an stack of what he thought were empty boxes, so he just put it on the rack that morning.

I am a big fan of Mannlicher stocked rifles, so.....

Very well finished, smooth action, nice set trigger, and nice wood (pics don't do it justice). Mounted a 1x6 Vortex scope in Warne rings. Took it to the range with just 55 grain ball to sight it in, and was getting 5 shot 1 1/2 inch groups. I expect it will do better with tailored loads.

Very nice rifle. I have a 452 that I bought at one of our club swap meets. I mounted a Leupold 2X7 on it and am really surprised at the tiny groups I am getting at 50 yards. It has that European hump back stock which I don’t particularly care for but it is growing on me.

You did real well there. I too, am a CZ fan.

I've got a CZ 455 FS, the .22 with a Mannlicher stock. Have a Leupold rimfire scope on it. I don't recall the wood as being as nice as yours though.

Haven't seen it in five years as it's been in storage in Hawaii, but hoping to be reunited in a month or so.

I had a CZ 550 American Safari rifle in .416 Rigby with the European hump-style stock. I loved it; gorgeous machine. Yes, yes, it was a thumper; rocked my world but fun! Then I tore my rotator cuff in my martial arts class and that rifle was the first thing to go. I can still shoot 12 gauge shotguns, my .35 Whelen customized Mauser, and my .375 Winchester Model 94. All of them definitely leave memories for a day or three after use. But I figured the .416 was going to leave more than a couple of days of memories so I dispensed with temptation.

CZs are magnificent rifles and in .223 I bet that's a pleasure to shoot!

My CZ527FS...223...is one of my more cherished rifles....one that my inlaws will have to fight over after I pass....along with my CZ452FS....22....both are works of art in metal and walnut...

That’s a beautiful rifle. The scope and mounts sure don’t go with it, however. I’d want some low rings and a Leupold compact scope.

The 527 action is sized just right for the .223/5.56 which CZ says you can use either.

I also have CZ FS/mannlicher's 452s in .22lr and .22mag ......

All have little 1-4x20 Leupold scopes..... great for the small fields and woods of the Laurel Highlands.

IMO CZ rifles are about the best bang for the buck going!!

Nice looking gun, I like the Mannlicher stocked guns also. Found the twin to yours last October with the set trigger also. The last thing I needed was another rifle but the price was good. Haven’t shot mine yet, the outside range is 1 hour away. Enjoy, Larry

You may or not be aware that the 'hog back' stock is designed to be used with the iron sights (Which are some of the best I've ever used), and the straight comb stocks like the American were designed for scope use.

The beauty of it all is, the 452 action, bbl and all will drop right in with zero modifications. They aren't exactly cheap though.

I love my CZ 550 Varmint Kevlar in .308WIN. Consistent 1/2 MOA with Federal Gold Metal 168gr Sierra Matchking Boat-tail Hollow-points when using the set trigger. It may not be a looker like the Mannlicher, but it gets the job done.

I agree, it does not fit the lines of the rifle. That Vortex Strike Eagle 30mm scope is primarily designed to be mounted on an AR. It was the only scope I had kicking around that was available. It needs high rings do to it's large Ocular Bell diameter and limited bolt handle clearance. I see a compact low power 1 inch Leupold in its future.


Besides this 527FS, I also have a 550 in 375H&H, a 452 in .22lr, and another 527 in .204 with the heavy barrel. CZ makes a nice rifle, and they kind of remind me of a European version of the pre-64 Winchester model 70.

Yeah I'm a fan. I have a 527 MTR varmint in 223, and two 452's a super BRNO and a lux, a 455, and also a Mannlicher. I'm always on the lookout for my next one. CZ's are a hard habit to break.

I dont know of anyone else making factory blued, walnut, iron-sight rifles with detachable mags and set triggers.
So, at least they are totally unique in 2021.
It doesnt hurt that they are excellent quality.

Reminds me I have a 453 Varmint in .17hmr that I got several years ago.... IIRC it's an 08 with fluted barrel and the 453's have single set triggers ..... new old stock/ still in the box .....

I prefer .22mag. to .17 so it's languished in the box ........

Is that not detrimental to accuracy when attaching/clamping the muzzle end to the wood rather than free floating it?

That was always my perception, never owned one but the LGS also said to better stay away from it.

Begs the question why these were invented in the 1st place?

Over the last years, I’ve had several CZ 22’s.
Now its a 453 LR and 455 WRM and a 527 in
.223 with flush magazine.
My only mannlicher currently is a 10/22 with
a nice walnut stock.
Several years back I had a beautiful Ruger
MK II in 250 Savage full stock. Accurate?
Not so much... But it was pretty.

I really want one of those CZ's in .223 Rem but for the life of me I can't understand why they put 1:9 twist barrels on them vs. 1:7 or 1:8. Lots of folks shoot the heavier bullets.

I wish they would bring back the design with the flush-fitting magazine. It was called the 527 American M1 and has the sleek look that I prefer. It is also easier for hand carry. It shows as 'discontinued' on their website. I have one in .223 with their beautiful set trigger. It's light to carry when hunting the mighty woodchuck in the summer....(esp. if you happen to be very OLD). p.s. VERY ACCURATE despite the thin bbl.

I bought a new 527 in .223 several years ago. Not the best finished rifle I've ever bought and working the action is not the smoothest, but the very good accuracy makes it easy to overlook the mentioned shortcomings.

At one time you could order the 452 American with what CZ called "Fancy" wood, for about $100.00 over the cost of the standard wood. So I didn't hit the wood lottery, I paid for it.





I've never shot it - I keep thinking about consigning it to a local shop to sell on Gunbroker, it seems the 452's are doing pretty well of late. But I take it out, look at it, and put it back. Bob's the name, indecision's the game.

I still like it's ancester better - a BRNO #5. Like me it's kind of old and worn. However its parts works better:

They do offer a 3 round magazine for the 527 that sits almost flush, and allows for good hand carry.

From what I have read on a CZ oriented forum, the 1/9 twist rifles are getting very good accuracy with up to and including most 69 grain bullets. Their decision to go with that twist rate is probably based on what bullet weights are most common, and the complaints some shooters have of over-stabilization with lighter weight varmint bullets.

Since the thread got bumped, here's a scout rifle I built on a CZ527 youth model in 7.62x39. It's a very fine field rifle... lightweight, and mild recoil. Accuracy is not quite MOA with cheap steel case Eastern Euro ammo. One of these days I'll get around to working up a handload for it.

Wow , no one has a cz 527 in 204 ruger? Mine shoots bug holes.
when i first shoot mine I could not believe how accurate it was then after 300 rounds it was even better. I have well over 3000 rounds thru it and it still shoots bugholes. if they are not all touching each other, my fault.
This barrel has never seen a brush and I have only used foaming bore cleaner, with an ottis pull thru patch.
Just bought a cz 75 bd, yep cz makes a very accurate firearm.

My little 527 carbine in 7.62x39 is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. It is no exaggeration to say I have fired dozens of sub-MOA 5-shot groups from the bench using the cheapest Russian-made steel-case ammo. And decent hunting loads do every bit as well. The longest shot on my hunting lease is about 125 yards, and this is absolutely all the rifle needed for deer, hogs and 'yotes.

Had a 455 American 22lr trainer (discontinued 2018) which I shot maybe 10 rounds with and foolishly sold it. Should have put a scope on it and kept it. Sellers remorse for sure.
