Default GP100 10mm soon to be 10mm Magnum

Howdy,

Finally found a GP100 10MM in this panic buying era I grabbed her for 900 shipped she was very dirty but thats ok I get as much pleasure from cleaning guns as I do shooting and loading for them..

After doing some dry firing the DA on this thing is amazing... its no refined S&W but I can DA stage the cylinder better than anything before...

So that's all out of the way and I'm going to punch this thing out for 10mm magnum, the cartridge may not reach its full potential in this little 3 inch I'm sure it will make one heck of a fireball bang, just for fun!

I'll post some progress pictures threw the process here.

I've ordered some TK custom full moon clips to run .40S&W reliably, and some to just load a bunch of 10mm and 10mag up...

Anyway here she is....

Erik

I can guarantee you it'll be a blast if those factory loads are loaded anything like my handloads.

My 4" M610 is.

That 's a nice-looking gun, and the power to go with it. Did you notice if the previous owner change the springs, or is it just a nice broke-in action?
This is the first time I've heard of 10mm Magnum, but I learn something new every day. (Yesterday I learned NOT to put Ben Gay on a pulled groin muscle!) That must be a handful, in a fun way. Good luck with it.
Oh, the grip handle, is it factory? It looks like it should tame the recoil somewhat. They'd look nice on my GP. I've seen those before, but the wood part looks a little darker. Nice gun!

You'd be better off reaming it out.

OK; I'll behave.

Everything is factory on the gun, after a good cleaning she's not had much threw it... just timed up pretty good

I have the same 3” GP100 and I have 100% ignition of 40s&w as long as I use the thicker TK customs moon clips. Once you ream to magnum you will have to use the same 40s&w moon clips for the 10mm.
I have shot some hot Double Tap 10mm loads and want nothing hotter than those. I shoot a lot of 2.5” and 3” 357 mags but the 10mm is noticeably more recoil and even rings plates more than the hottest 357 mags I can make.

I had this same question, called TK about it and they said even going to magnum only .40 will need the thicker moon clips...

Didn't even tell me about this . For a Ruger , not a bad looking piece . You need a holster so you can carry it when you visit the south 40 , you might run into a rampaging elephant or rhino .

Interesting that they say that. I don’t know from personal experience because I have no plan to open mine to magnum. Mine will probably have a diet of 99% .40 since I get it free. The 10mm Rugers space on the case mouth. That is why it requires thicker moon clips for the 40. S&w at least made the back of their 610 cylinders to a tighter spec to where they space on 10mm case mouths and moon clips.

Cool. Let us (me) know if you have any S-L brass failure issues.

I leaned on mine pretty hard.

.

If you ream all the chambers to a consistent & appropriate depth you should be able to fire (casual/informal shooting) taper crimped rounds without moonclips. I often do with mine.
