Default Additional Pictures of Manurchin MR73

I have had one of these on my bucket list for a few years. I knew one of these revolvers would be expensive. So, I took my time and waited for what I wanted.

I only have the one picture for right now. Hopefully, I will have the revolver by next week. It comes with the factory box, cleaning kit, SAT, and manual. The NILL stocks/grips could be original to the guns, but I am not certain. Either way, I am happy to have them. The barrel is 5 & 1/4". It was listed as in 99% condition and possible unused. It will hardly matter since I will make good use of it.

It should look good mixed in with my Smith's.

lamarw,
I am not familiar with your gun at all. It looks very nice. The only time I have heard of Manurhin was in connection to the Walthers. Can you please "take me to school"? Thanks.

I have an MR88 I like quite a lot. Probably as close to an MR73 as I'll ever get.

Nice catch, you will enjoy the gun. You can do a trigger job with 2 screws in the front of the grip. Wanted the 5 1/4” but got a 6” for a great price. Sorry to say it’s what a S&W should be. Have a Korth .22 but like the Manurhin better because the action is just like a S&W. Need that range report, Larry

Hi Larry, I have never seen one in person. I have read great things about the revolver. From what I have read, it is slightly larger than a K Frame. It seems the French special ops guy were wrecking the S&W M-19s is short order. They like the .357 Magnum and started developing a replacement to stand up to their rigorous shooting training. I will let the following link steer you through their development and use course of events:

manurhin mr73: larvatus — LiveJournal

Start reading in section III which is about 2/3s of the way down the page.

Enjoy, Lamar

I have fired a couple of older Korth revolvers, and even one of their 9mm semi-autos. They are terrific guns. The Manurhin MR 73 is also pretty special. I've never seen anything but pictures of a Janz. Unfortunately, I'll have to suffer through shooting my bargain basement Python, and assorted older S&W revolvers. Woe is me.

I have read that the french special agent training involved shooting 100 rounds of 357 magnum / day for at least 300 days in a yrs time . That comes out to 30,000 or more rounds per year per gun . They used Norma 357 magnum ammunition . They even had Manurhins with a 10" barrel and a bi-pod for sniper work . So yes , the 73 Manurhins are quality . I have S&W's and a couple of Colts that probably shoot better than I do so I will be content with what I have . Good luck , have fun . Regards Paul

Absolutely gorgeous revolvers.

Someone right above me mentioned the Janz. I think the looks of the Manhurin and Korth are far more appealing. Before you scroll to the bottom of their homepage, be WARNED...

Very nice

I've got a couple from the 1970's. In fact, the 4" is a '73

Lamarw,

the HA prefix means that it is an early Manurhin made by Chapuis Armes. I had an HA prefix MR73 with a four inch barrel and it was every bit as good as my Mulhouse 5 1/4 inch revolver. I like the MR73 but still prefer a Korth from 1971 over all other centerfire revolvers.

Thank You, I have been looking around in an attempt to date it. It seems it is easier said than done. At least your Post provides me with some inkling of an idea of its age.

It is nice to hear from someone with experience with the gun. Regards, Lamar

Lamar,
That is a very informative article, and the Manhurin MR73 is a really interesting revolver with a really interesting history. I never knew of a revolver built to withstand such shooting. I can't imagine shooting 30,000 rounds of .357 magnum per year for training, and using the same revolver year after year! Pretty cool!

I kept the Mulhouse MR because I prefer longer barreled revolvers over shorter barreled ones. I had compared them side by side, on the range and assessing the quality inside and out and I have found no difference. Chapuis Armes supposedly had a few issues with the first revolvers that they manufactured, those are the stories that you will find on the internet but Chapuis is no new name in the gun industry. They have manufactured fine hunting rifles for a very long time.

All you will need now to be in revolver heaven is a fine old Korth revolver. This is my favorite one:

Not only did they hold up to many rounds of .357 ammo but they had to shoot under an inch at 25 meters. That’s a match gun for sure, Larry

Recently I purchased a Korth Mongoose. I looked at Manurhin 73 but settled on the Korth because I could get the factory fitted 9mm cylinder.
Only 1 trip to the range so far trigger amassing.

For those of you who are Manurhin 73 revolver fans, the French film “MR-73” is a must see! It was released in the US as “The Last Deadly Mission” starring Daniel Auteuil. The French title comes from...well you guessed it, a revolver used in the movie, the MR-73. The main character played by Daniel Auteuil goes up against a series killer, thus the “deadly mission” with the help of a MR-73, a revolver that belongs to his partner. Auteuil plays a washed up cop who goes “old school” breaking out the classic French service weapon he and his partner used as rookie cops! An awesome movie!

I decided I needed a Manurhin to go with my Korth. This is a 357 Match version, adjusted the double action with screw in the front of the grip 3/4 turn and double action is fantastic. I also got Traush grips with the gun.

Toyman,
about forty years ago I had a chance to shoot a .32 S&W Long MR73 Match that belonged to a friend who was a professional shooter and many SIG Sauer factory target bear his name.

That gun had surely left me impressed!

I found your certificate interesting. My certificate does not show a date and is slightly different in its scheme. I am guessing my revolver, SN: HA02326, was manufactured in late 2009 or early 2010.

I would appreciate your estimate or thoughts.
