New old 22
Picked up a mint Remington 541-X with the big Williams peep sight and 27" bull barrel. My FFL buddy had it in his rack for a long time and another freind wanted one of my other bolt 22s, so sold it to him and got the target gun for $595

The trigger is a bit stiff, no movement but takes some pressure. The 541 -X is a military trainer model with a non adjustable trigger. Research has shown I can mount a 788 adjustable trigger, Timney makes one for about $160+ and I can lower the pressure in this one with a lighter spring. It is not tapped for a scope mount. I could do that, but these sell for about a grand on GB and I wonder how much it would effect value. But, with aging eyes if I can't shoot it real well with the sights what good is it to me?

In 50 plus years of shooting, I have bought MAYBE three guns with the intent of reselling them someday. If I need or WANT to modify one of my guns to make it fit ME, I do the mods.

Ya, I have pretty much been the same way. But, usually the guns I pick up are not like new. In will probably stick in a Timney trigger and mount a scope. Having it suit me is higher on my list than what happens when I sell it someday.

Great looking rifle. May you have much luck with it inc. the trigger and scope.
You undoubtedly are familiar with the black max line of adhesives by Loctite. Some say it/they can work well to hold a scope that’s not too heavy. As an interim solution, you might try that and postpone the drilling and tapping, as the rifle is a classic the way it is without being D&T.
In any event, best of luck! I happen to have a grooved 521T and it is a real shooter, despite the clunky trigger.

Well, a Timney trigger, an older 10x40mm Redfield target scope and a Picatinny Rail type Scope Mount that fits a 541 is all ordered
