Shaking up my interests
I paid more than I would have a few years ago, but what the heck, I’ve sold a dozen handguns in the past year.
Fresh off the Colt assembly line.

Hey, life is short so enjoy your new gun. I love a good Colt and carried one for many many years. Your original post did not say it is a .45 ACP so I will not assume so. I have been shooting the big .45 since I was in short pants and I'm 71 with a .45 XD auto and S&W 625-8 4" so you know I am hooked. HAVE FUN!
I also have been selling the guns I either can no longer use due to age or health reasons and I am consolidating my guns into smaller caliber specific categories like .22LR, 45 ACP, and I plan to and one more like either .44 Magnum or .38 Special/.357 Magnum as they have wide ammo function as well usefulness. I have a mix of semi-autos and revolvers as well.

Nice. I had one for awhile, but found I never carried it. Sold it off to help pay the credit card debt from my pre-election purchases.
I go through cycles. Modern guns, old guns, pretty much everything. I can go to any gun or pawn shop and find something I want to buy.
And that's why I try to stay out of gun/pawn shops.

Don't stay away, they need you more than you need them: make them earn your business!

But I just got the CC paid off.
I actually went out last Friday looking for something older, & if a handgun, in a larger caliber. The selves were practically bare. People have lost there minds. They're out buying anything & everything right now. Makes it hard for us gun guys that like to go out and find interesting guns to buy at reasonable prices.
I do have a line on a 629 5" Classic pre-lock, but I really don't need another .44 mag (but I sure do want it ).

I've always like the Defender just because I'm a huge fan of the 1911 platform and have half a dozen Colts in various models, from a basic Government stainless (that I use as a lower for my Nelson .22 upper), some XSE's in .45 and 9mm in between, topped with a Gold Cup. So yea, I like 1911's.
However, I always felt that a small pistol like the Defender was a bit of a handful in .45 so I held back for a very long time.
Then, Colt brought out the Defender in 9mm and I finally came around and bought it off of Bud's.
It's now one of my favorites, both as an SD carry piece and as a range gun for practice.
You can't go wrong with a Defender.
