Thumbs up Metalform mags

Metalform is a one of the best magazine manufacturers in the USA. They provide mags to many gun makers with the gun company's logo. They don't seem to sell retail very much.

Example: I bought 6 new 9mm Cobra mags for my single stack 1911. I also bought 6 new Metalform mags for the same gun. They are identical except the rubber bumper says Cobra on 6 of them.

Metalform moved from Connecticut to I believe Rhode Island a few years ago...they were not far from where I was brought up.

They are the OEM for several manufacturers including Colt. If you see a Pony on the bottom of the magazine and a "M" in one corner, that is Metalform.

I have a couple dozen in 9mm, .38 Super and .45... Only issue I ever had with one was a brand new magazine that had not been properly welded...just about the time the mag was full the baseplate blew off...

Can't speak to current production, but I've used Metalform mags I bought from the 90s. They work fine in my Colt Series 80 Govt Model, but they don't seem to fit the mag well in my Series 70 Gold Cup. If I press the mag release while inserting the mags, they goes in, otherwise it won't insert. Not sure what the issue is. I prefer the rounded followers of the Metalforms, so I put them in my Colt mags, at least one of which has the M, so it was made by Metalform. My Colt mags work fine in both 1911s.

I have used Metal Form magazines in 9mm, 38 Super and .45 ACP. Just excellent performance. Years ago, I had a Metal Form magazine crack. I called them up. All they asked was where to send the new magazine.

Most likely the mag release needs polished and or deburred, a 5 to 10 minute job with a jeweler's file set!

Metalform make top notch magazines. For a 1911 in .38 Super their mags are the absolute best.

I have a stack of Metalform 9mm 1911 magazines. They are good and bad.

Good in that they are dead-nuts reliable, bad in that compared to the Wilson 9mm 1911 mags, they are much more difficult to load and they are just plain horrendous on the rare chance that you have to unload them manually.

In summary, mine work great but if someone wanted to trade me Wilsons for them, I’d do it immediately with no regrets.

I’ve got a slew of “M” marked Colt 1911 magazines that have performed perfectly for many many years. They are high quality magazines and would recommend them highly. I also have a few Wilson’s that are great as well but actually prefer the Colt Metalforms. The Wilson’s are slightly smoother and are finished quite well but I just prefer the “original look” of the Colts better. Both are terrific!!

Thanks all, I bought a few Metalform mags for my 1911’s, including my recent Colt Defender which came with just one mag.

I've got a bunch of Metalform 9mm mags. I also have some Wilson Combat 9mm mags and they are identical to the Metalforms.
