If your mags will feed reliably ( a common issue with the High Standard semi autos), you will have a beautiful shooter! Nice score.

Lee,
These were fine and reliable .22 pistols. I have one, serial #2471xx, that I dated to March, 1948.
As for yours, number 310654, it was made sometime during 1949. The beginning serial number for that year was 299000, and the ending number was 324999. This is according to Charles Petty's book High Standard Automatic Pistols 1932-1950. You might be able to extrapolate an approximate month.
I hope this helps.
John

Great gun and it looks to be in excellent condition. Nice score!
The HD Military was only made from 1946 to 1951.

I purchased 4 Triple K mags for spares and they work fine. I had a factory one come apart and cleaned and buffed with a wire wheel and used J.B. Weld and it works also. A little touch up blue and it doesn't show.

Mine is 180938. It's in pretty decent shape, some browning around the front strap. Any ideas on when it was made? I'm thinking 1946. Is that close?

I have the 6" version among my HS "accumulation". When you thumb back the hammer on the HD Military and feel absolutely no friction or rub or grit or side to side movement - maybe they can make them like that nowadays but they sure don't.
Most HS semi pistols don't have a feed ramp and that's why magazines are critical. I don't recall who makes the thing, but there's a device sold on Ebay that's used to tweak the feed lips. Works well, worth having.

Close. Your pistol was probably made sometime in the early months of 1947.

I went to the LGS to get a can of Gun Scrubber about a year ago and came home with this HS Model B. A very solid and fun gun to shoot. Bought a Triple K mag to have as a spare and it doesn't work so I got an original on ebay.

I have a slant grip Supermatic Tournament that feels great. I need to do some more magazine adjustments though to get it right. Always thought that the H-D Military were neat .22s. I also like the old ones.

If you look and measure the one that works you should be able to fine tune the Triple K. It takes very little bending on the lips.

Nice score! I only have a 6" DURA-MATIC, magazine doesn't feed worth a dime. When I was at Ft Riley, there's a pistol range on main post, a couple of times a week I'd sign-out a Military and 100 rounds and spend my lunch making a ragged hole.

took it out this morning to fellow forum member Deno56's back yard range. shot flawlessly. we put 50 or 55 rds thru it. it is accurate(more than me) and a joy to shoot. this one is not going to be a safe queen. Lee

I used to have a High Standard HD but I traded it off on something else,
Can't even remember what now.
There is still a High Standard Firearms in business in Houston, Texas.
I'm sure you can find it on Google if you need anthing for the HD. I sent
mine to them and they fixed whatever the problem was.

That is a very good catch Lee, they are great shooters. I love the ergonomics of them, too bad the US military didn't buy a bunch of them.
I have one that dates to 1948 that is a fine shooter, but I've read it's best to shoot standard velocity 22LR ammo in them so that's typically what I use in mine.
Also, if you have feed problems it's usually due to the feed lips and there is a tool available to adjust them correctly.

Actually, the H-D Military was based on the U.S.A. Model H-D, which was procured in large quantities during WWII for training. A number were equipped with suppressors for use by the O.S.S.
I have one of these, and it's distinguished from the H-D Military by a rear sight that's not adjustable for elevation, and U.S. Property markings. The instruction sheet here is an original that was issued with the guns.

I saw a few in RVn. In fact some Marines used them for tunnel rat guns.
U2 pilot G. Powers had a Hi Std when he was shot down over Russia. Not sure which model. No US markings for sure on CIA hardware. Chopper pilots carried all sorts of stuff. From Thompson’s to Ruger MK 1. I wish I had paid more attention and squirreled a few of them.

+1 on the standard velocity ammo--shoots great and there's no need to stress an old gun (for which you may or may not find parts). If the frame cracks from HV, it's toast.
I've read good results with the new HS magazines out of Texas--I don't have any because when I bought my pistols I scoured the bay for magazines and managed to pick up enough to satisfy my needs (without having to pay the jacked-up prices).
Do your research and be very careful about disassembly--IIRC if it's done wrong your piece could end up a paperweight! Another forum dedicated to the .22s is the place to look up that info.

I saw picture of Power’s HI-St and it wasn’t suppressed. I know an attorney that has a Colt and HI-St 22 auto pistols with silencers. Both OSS from WW2. When I was in training they skipped over the 22pistols and rifles. They did pass out the manuals for them. The FMs were from 1950s. On the display board there was a labeled spot for a 22 pistol but it wasn’t there. As far as I know our arms room had none. Somewhere on base they had 22 pistols for officers. I never found out where or I would have a few examples.

I used to shoot with an old codger that I worked with. He got me to join the club he was at. He had an HD-Military and he always had accuracy problems with it. When he sold it I couldn't resist it. I knew the sight was broken, but since it came with a tooled holster, 2 extra mags and an extra set of real stag grips I bought it. Set me back 40 bucks.
Turned out the sight screw located on the bottom of the slide was loose. After sighting it in it was so accurate that I used it for bullseye matches instead of my Model 41.
Still have it to this day. Never had a FTF or FTE with any of the 3 factory mags that came with it, as long as I use HV ammo. It never liked std vel.

H D military silencer model was with Powers and displayed by Russ. this vintange .22 did not have a problem with mag.'s only if you have the wrong mag. the only week spot was the sear - after long use. also it's a valuable collector.

HD militaries have been bringing $450 and up for decent shooters and $700 range for really nice ones.

Just a reminder that High Standard produced semi pistols in something other than 22 short and long rifle.
HS 380 A.jpg
HS 380.jpg
I found this at the last Reno Gun show before shut down. Drove from San Francisco to Reno, saw this my 1st go around, snagged it and drove back.
Bit of a challenge to find in nice shape, had passed up a few lesser conditioned pieces.

Francis Gary Powers' pistol was most certainly the HDMS which standards for H-D military silenced. There are lots of pictures of it on display in Russia. All spy plane drivers (U-2, A-12 and SR-71) carried silenced .22 pistols for survival purposes. They also were authorized to carry another pistol as a personal defense weapon (PDW).
The HS G-380 was developed for the OSS as a more lethal successor to the .22 HDMS and was originally intended to be silenced. However, the war ended before they got into production so it became a (not very successful) civilian offering.
