Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless help
I have a Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 that has a large pit in the dustcover that I would like to repair. My question is what welding wire should be used, both for compatibility with the frame (good fill and fusion) and good ability to match the frame after blueing. The repair will be done using micro GMAW techniques, unless I can find someone who can accomplish the job with a plasma torch.

You got a picture of this blemish? If it doesn't affect function, I'd be hesitant to do anything to fix it cosmetically. Call it a Cindy Crawford mole.

How hard will it be to match the steel so it takes bluing like the rest of the piece?

Without knowing the steel the gun was made of hard to say there is a guy up in the North west corner of Tennessee that specializes in Colt restoration, but he ain't cheap. Name escapes me at the moment. I repaired a cut off trigger guard on a 22/32 Smith you can find it under my started threads I used a cheap Harbor Freight welder
