Every time I think I have seen it all, I find out I am mistaken. A $350 paint ball/Pepper spray gun. Wouldn’t it be better and far cheaper to simply carry a can of pepper spray?

It 'may' have a place where legal carry of firearms is not permitted. Not sure I would opt to have one in anything close to a "gun color", and as recent events in the news showed it would not be a good choice paired with a pistol, as it might be mistaken for one when a less-than-lethal option is desired.

I think there would be more questions than answers with this thing. Some would involve durability (it would have to be fully charged when I needed it), proven effectiveness, would carrying it in a OWB holster attract unwanted attention and it might be considered by some an alternative to a firearm in a deadly encounter? 20 yard capability. I can see a pellet not dispersing it's charge and someone's attack being accelerated as the anger escalates from being "shot". Reality is that I am not believing you can be sure that an attack is imminent until you are also in range of the irritant. I would rank it well behind pepper spray, air horn and a whistle.

I view it as more of a "feel good" device for the owner that will attract more attention (and a lot of it potentially negative) than may be wanted by most people. Of course there are those folks that thrive on attention. I also rank it far behind a good can of pepper spray and a whistle.

A couple of my associates carry a pepper ball gun. I've never seen them work more effectively than a good fog of pepper spray, and the last time we drug a fella' out of a closet, he was unphased by three pepper balls fired into a confined space. He was much more apprehensive of taking a bean bag round to the glute . . .

I'm with Murphydog in that I think carrying something for self defense that looks like a handgun but isn't is likely to encourage a lethal reaction from anyone who feels targeted and is armed. I'd be worried about reactions from both bad guys and good guys, cops included, on the scene.

If someone doesn't want a handgun, but wants something for SD/Deterrent, seems like a decent option.

330+ million Americans. I'm sure it fills the needs of many people. Not everyone wants a handgun, often due to a variety or reasons (fear of ND, do not want to take life under any circumstances, etc.).

I don't want it, but if someone else does, they're welcome to it.

a can of wasp/hornet spray and a straight razor

I just bought one of those Umarex paintball guns, used, on Amazon for less than $70. It absolutely shreds a cardboard box filled with newspapers and I think it would be a good solution for urban pests--particularly feral chickens.

It's fun to shoot and I have a big stash of old C02 cartridges to use up so I'm gonna play with it this summer.

Some of the revolver models can be up-powered with new valves and the velocities can be pretty impressive, particularly with the "sabot-ed" steel ball rounds but I'm not going down that wormhole...yet. LOL

For serious self defense use? NO
