Colt Detective Special.....
Went to the docks today to buy a few pounds
of shrimp.
Crusty Ol' Dude I bought a model S&W Model 28 (Shrimp Gun)
a couple years ago asked if still like revolvers.
Advised that I did and asked what he had.
He advised some kind of small Colt.
He disappears into the boats cabin.
I'm thinkin this one will be a mess like the 28....
To my surprise he pulls this from a lined gun rug.
Nary a mark on it....tight and right.
1993 with the wrong grips....But it was a decent deal.

Always a nice gun to have. The new ones can't hold a candle to the older ones.

My first off duty gun was a 1968 Cobra purchased new for $85 and I still have it. Had the range officer bob the hammer when I was assigned to an old clothes operation for a few months.

You'll soon find out why the DS was called the "Target Snub Nose" I'm betting.
Have owned a couple of them over the years, all were way more accurate than you'd expect. Plus 6 shots in almost the size of a J frame. What's not to like?
Congratulations on a great snag. Thanks for sharing it.

Got it Armalloyed for carry. Ended up selling it to another Officer and I regretted doing so. Bought another one years later, sold that one off, and then bought another one. It stayed in the safe and I finally sold that one too.
Every once in a while i get a hankering to buy another one.

Being an avowed traditionalist, mine is "old school" and still almost pristine. This Dick Special dates from May, 1959, and can get the job done any day!

My Police Positive Special (in 32 Colt NP/32 S&W Long) was made in 1958 and has the best trigger pull I have ever seen on any Colt.

This one isn't mine but it is definitely old school. It is an Agent that belongs to a 91 year old friend who bought it when he was assigned to Vice Enforcement in 1964 and has carried it every day since. Two years ago when he was only 89, he used it to win a gun fight with a gang banger with a .40 Glock who made the mistake of trying to rob him.

I think we should take up a collection and buy him some new grips.

My favorite carry gun. Mine have been around the block. I usually carry the lower one (actually a Cobra) because it is so light. The stag one goes out with me once in a while though. Same holster.

That gun - nickle 3rd Model Detective Special with factory stocks - is the best looking gun Colt has ever made. (And yes, I have Pythons.)

I like the light weight of my Agent, here on the left.
On the right in one of it's favorite holsters.
PS those extended boots are by Craig Spegel.

This one from 1934 was shipped and inscribed on the back strap to Columbia Police Dept, Columbia SC. 5 guns in the shipment.

Here's a true 1st issue, as it has the square butt, and dates to 1933. It shoots pretty good, and is one of my favorites:

Now THAT gun looks like a carry piece! BTW, re the poster's 91-year old friend: so much for revolvers and us older folks being obsolete, out-of-date, and look how time has passed us by. That fellow won that fight because he was a gunman, a term that has largely fallen by the wayside.

Also a Cobra circa 1952. A retirement gift to a Michigan State Police Lieutenant, it sat unfired in his sock drawer until his death, went next to a WWII vet who used a 200gr Super Police round to dispatch an opossum and then to me, where it got the vast majority of its honest wear. Now in honorable retirement in the safe.
Here with its partners in crime-stopping. My daily load-out on the job.

That service revolver looks like a Mark III. Is is a .357 Lawman or .38 Metropolitan?

Too Cool, Especially for a fellow South Carolinian! The only thing that would have made it perfect is if it had lettered as going to the Police Chief himself.😀

A Lawman. It was my engagement present from an amazing woman who wanted to make sure I came home at end of watch.

I know it doesn't pertain to the actual thread, but with all the former leo's here I was wondering if any of you had seen or carried on of the saps like I have in my picture with my detective special?

I saw a few old timers carry something similar. They were notorious for cutting scalps. causing you to spend hours getting prisoners sewed up. For that reason, I carried one of the flat leather ones. I can testify to their effectiveness since my helpful partner hit me behind the ear with one.

Yep. You have to be careful, but a solid "bonk" on the forehead and it's usually lights out for Mr Shouldaquit.
That's my 12 oz flat sap below the 1946 38/44 Heavy Duty. The sap was carried pretty much daily, uniform and plainclothes, until the regulations changed.
It most certainly works.
