I like that Girlscout knife. I’ve never seen one before. How long is the blade? Neat looking little knife.

I am amazed at the rise in popularity (and price!) of the GEC knives. I've never handled one but for the prices that they sell for in the secondary market I sure hope the quality is there. I understand that the company releases a lot of limited editions to fuel the collector market. For a company that has only been in business for 15 years they must be going something right!

However, the tool I used most frequently that I carried with me was a pen!

The smaller/shorter 112 Ranger comes with thumb studs and a pocket clip, and without brass bolsters. I'm thinking of getting the brown Micarta version.

I carry modern knives clipped to my pocket for ease of use and accessibility. I will also carry a small slip joint in my pocket.

The oldest slip joint I have is a 1983 Case Eisenhower.

The only knife I routinely carry that isn't a lockback is a SAK. I use it to open mail, cardboard boxes, etc. But I use my lockback folders and switchblades for the same purpose - and I always carry two knives, the SAK and something else:

Something for everyone:

Buck 110 original

Buck 110 LT

Buck 110 Slim Select.

I'm not sure they qualify as "pocket" knives except the Slim Select which was designed as a pocket knife.

Not being able to open my knife with one hand is an absolute deal breaker. The 110 and the LT have aftermarket thumbstuds from KwikStud (Approximately 10 bucks on Fleabay).

The LT comes with a Cordura Belt Sheath but it's light enough to carry in my pocket. It's become my daily off the clock carry.

I'm thinking of getting one of the old school leverlock autos with stag handles. Want to make a pouch sheath for it and put it on my western belt rig.

This is a great thread. I have a small collection (80) of knives. Mostly I like sheath knives and daggers, but I also have quite a few plain old pocket knives. I don't care much for the current craze over "tactical knives".
Anyway my current EDC is a Buck 373 trio. A pocket sized 3 blade knife.

However, When out on my boat I have a Buck 110 on my belt. Back in 1967 when on a Coast Guard ship, I saw a man get his hand caught in a mooring line. What saved him was the Chief Bosun and a Buck 110 that sliced right through that line. I've had one since. Lost at least one. Currently have two.

As for pocket knives. I have a small Sabre I have kept in my fishing tackle box far longer than I can remember. Good fishing knife. I have had other pocket knives over the years, almost all old fashion two or three blade knives, some with a leather punch. For the lady who sells Case knives I have a Case XX Barlow style 62009, Case XX 2 blade 6220 SS, and a Case XX Mini Copperlock 61749L, that was my EDC for about a year. I really like that knife.

But probably the most unusual pocket knife I have, and have used as an EDC, is a Pastor-Aleman-Camper. Pastor-Aleman means German Shepard. I still haven't really traced it's origin. I think it was made in Spain because Pastor Aleman is Spanish.

A friend of mine said they were issued or maybe everyone bought one but at any rate everyone in his group that went through SF training had a Buck 110. This would have been mid to late 60’s era. He has been a fan ever since, even becoming a Buck dealer for a while in the 80’s. Very tough knives.

You folks are bad influences. Since the mid-80s all I've carried are various Spyderco folders and a Benchmade folding Tanto. All have been great and very sharp, especially the Benchmade. But I like "old school" and decided to order a Buck 110 Finger Groove Folding Hunter. It arrived today.

Holy schnikees!!! This thing is the sharpest knife I've ever had! I hope it turns out to be a durable edge as well, because sometimes really sharp turns out to not be durable.

It's pretty heavy in my pocket (I don't want to wear the belt pouch), but I kind of like that.

Hmmm...this could be a bad habit.

What sold me on a Buck 110 was the sharpness and the ability to retain an edge. I’ve used mine numerous times to cut thin tin lids with the work I do.

I try to keep whatever knife I’m carrying near razor sharp. It’s no big deal to touch up the edge on my big Norton stone and actually much easier to touch it up often than to let it get bad making it a chore to get sharp again.

No telling what I may end up needing to cut in the course of my comings and goings. Just last week I can remember cutting rope, fire blanket, fishing line, a couple wild pigs, a sheet of conveyor belt, and I’m sure some other stuff. Always best to be prepared with a sharp knife.

I had a shoebox sized Tupperware container about half full of knives of all styles . A couple of them had sentimental value . When our home flooded in 2016 somebody on the demo crew stole it . There was so much going on and so many people going in and out that I didn't realize it was gone until 5 months later when we moved back in . I'm still sick about it . One of the knives was given to me by my wife's grandfather .

In the past two years, I've purchased several hundred knifes, yet seldom carry one unless I'm hunting. I think I may have a problem

I carried a Sod Buster for years! Until I lost the darn thing. But I've also lost a really nice Benchmade Automatic. I've been thinking about getting another Sod Buster. Might as well run by the local Ace and see if they have any in stock today.

(PS: You're right tho, I am carrying a Kershaw Launch 7 auto)

What do you do for a living? Only reason I ask is I don’t think I could get through a day without needing a knife. I work maintenance at a power plant.

I agree, I am a insurance agent/agency owner and I could not get through everyday life without a pocket knife. Always something I need it for during the day at work or home. I have not left the house without one in over 40 years.
