Price of Browning HiPower .40???
Pal of mine wants to sell a very good, hardly used Browning HiPower in 40. He has no idea what to ask.
I just sold one of my HPs in 9, also in excellent condition, for $1150. I don't imagine the 40s command quite a similar price, but am not sure how to advise him. (He wants to sell locally in the Seattle area.)
Anyone have any estimates of what a fair price is these days?
Thanks.

You should tell him to put in on Gunbroker at a penny start.
That's how he'll get the absolute most for it regarding market value.
If he limits himself to his local area he'll probably wait for a long time and not get what he wants for it.
I'll bet it goes for more than he thinks if he does this.

The larger the audience - the better. Market value will be established.

I do not think the 40 is as popular as the 9mm. It depends on the year, model, etc. I saw a Belgium 9mm go in an hour the other day for 1350.00. They go quick

The last I saw the 40's had a 10% premium above the 9's. That was before the large sell of. I would love to have one but would pass at the 4 numbers they now command.

There is a two tone MKIII in .40 listed on a trader site at $1,600. It’s been listed since December. I fully expect it to still be there this December.

I do not think the difference between 40 caliber and 9 mm matters as much right now as it previously did. If it is Belgian made then it is at a premium. 40's seem to be going about as fast as the 9mm's. That would be a good item to sell on Gunbroker as suggested above.

the 40's have a reinforced slide & frame.. old school trick was to put a 9mm barrel in so you can shoot +P in the HP... not done so much these days.. I would think $800-$1200 would be the range depending on model and magazines that come with it.. mags are about $40 each.. and a target sight is a plus... practical model is a plus.. "silver" ones are a plus... too many variables to get precise with value... and photos would help.

I may be dating myself but the .40 S&W Hi-Power was introduced in 1994 while the Hi-Power has been around since 1935. It's hard to say anything done with a .40 is "old school".
