Fake Smith&Wesson Ladysmith
Just recieved this small revolver. I do know that there where some post of this kind revolver before.
I wonder what serial number those have. Mine is number 38. Aldo a bit crude made. The latch is very crude. I do think it is factory made. It says Smith and Wesson al over. Even lady Smith gun and USA patent.
No markings beside nummer 38 on cilinder and inside frame. The caliber is .22lr 7 shots cilinder. The cilinder is loose ( not attached anywhere) but very tight on a short stomp cilinderax.
The extractor pin is screwed in the cilinderax. It has a internal firingpin and a coilsprin mainspring. the rifling is almost straight .The finish is black.
I have really no idear who have made this. It is in my collection now. The odd thing is that this is really mentioned as a real Smith and Wesson on my permitt. But hee how else you can mark it? It is a nice fake Smith and Wesson. Maybe there is someone out there who can provide me more info about this revolver.

Not S&W and likely not made in an English-speaking country.
I found two others of the type, so it is not a unicorn and was produced at some factory. It does not look handmade anyways.
Seven years ago somebody presented one on another forum. No contributor to the discussion had the slightest idea where it is from or who made it.
Last year a prestigious auction house in Germany, Hermann Historica, had one for sale. Their only comment was “unauthorized production, not found in the literature”. In other words, no clue

Looks like an opportunity that S&W may have missed. I'd be interested in buying one.

Remember that stupid, horrendous commercial—I think for Mountain Dew—Puppy, Monkey, Baby? This is what this gun reminds me of—Revolver/Derringer/Top-Break.
I would take a Khyber Pass! But I should not be critical, they make guns far better than I could in a mud hut.

I have discussed this with friends. The info from Milton could be right. The finish is the same as you can find on their Webley clones to. Even the craftmanship. Ofcource you do not get any confermation it is a fake. So the real makers stay under the radar.

Gives it a Pythonesque flair.

Some discussion from a 2020 German auction:
Los 9604 | Kurzwaffen moderne Systeme | Online-Katalog | O82s | Vergangene Auktionen | Kaufen | Hermann Historica
"Kal. .22 l.r., No. 38. Blank tilting barrel, length 1-3/4". Seven-shot. On the left side of the barrel case marketed "Smith & Wesson 22 LR", on the frame in front of the tap "Lady Smith Gun", on the right on the frame S&W logo. Original burnation. Black plastic handle shells with inscription "USA Patent". Presumably unauthorized manufacturing, not mentioned in the literature. WBK: Attention - Subject to permission Condition: I"
Based on some G-surfing, they also made this thing with only a 6-round chambered cylinder. Photos show one with Stingers in the chambers, but the above description suggests that they're intended for blanks. Yikes! -S2

I know my comment is not empirical or fact based, but I believe based on my experience that this is ME. I know it is not much help, sorry.

That's for mounting a 2-6x long eye relief handgun scope.

Thuer, thanks for getting back to us on these unusual revolvers. There is (or was) some additional discussion on them in the other "Smith&Wesson Forums", dating back to around 2014. However, I was unable to link to those discussions; perhaps due to some auto-editing feature on this, the original, S&W Forum. I did a Google search on "Lady Smith Gun" and thereby found those discussion links and photos.
Because some of the photos show 6-round cylinders, and there were multiple discussions, it suggests to me that these have been around for a while as a semi-mass produced item. I'm surprised that S&W hasn't tried to squash the manufacturer. Perhaps, like the Spanish clone S&W's of the last century, it just isn't (or wasn't) worth pursuing.
Anyways, like others have suggested, I would certainly start off shooting something fairly light in your Lady Smith. I wish you the best of luck with it. -S2
ETA: I, too, have a fake Lady Smith, although from a different manufacturer; a Rossi "Princess":
