This is a mystery. In 1862 when the C.W. was going full steam & every available side arm at gun shops were bought by the army so civilian firearms were impossible to find. Then this came along. It letters as being shipped along w/ 500 inspected firearms & sent to an army officer in WA. D.C. in 1862
To add as to why a civilian revolver was shipped in an order of inspected firearms, this also appears to be engraved in the Gustave Young style & has the wolf head on the hammer. I bit the bullet to add to the letter to see if it was engraved at the request of the factory
