Default Ruger Blackhawk Convertible 10mm/.38-40

This definitely wasn’t on my radar when I entered one of my LGS this morning. Buckeye Sports limited run Ruger Blackhawk in 10mm/.38-40. Been fired, but still looks new. Looking at what these are going for versus what they were asking, I couldn’t pass. Just need to find some dies.

Least common of the convertibles and all the Buckeyes were well made. Nice find.

The Blackhawk is never a mistake.Excellent gun and the 38-40 is,in my book a much underevaluated caliber.
Congrats for an excellent purchase and have fun with it.

CONGRATULATIONS, Great find!

I had one of those. It’s a limited edition Buckeye Special, from Buckeye Shooting Supply. They offered another one in .32-20/.32 H&R Mag. Bianchi made a full flap holster for it with a Buckeye stamped on the flap. Had one of those too.

I made out well, but regret selling both. Mrs. Chad was born in Ohio and she’s the only Buckeye Special I have left!

Talking

I also have one of the Buckeye Specials in 38-40 and 10mm. It's been so long since I fired it I'd almost forgotten the gun. I also have the 32/20 and 32 H&R Blackhawk , plus a Marlin lever rifle chambered for 32/20. I've got to get them out and shoot them before I drop dead.

Congrats!

I'd love to find one of those to go with my 32-20/.32 H&R Mag Buckeye Blackhawk. I found another .32 H&R Mag aux. cylinder for sale on ebay and had it reamed to .327 Fed. Mag, so now I have the original ones that came with my gun, plus the 3rd one.

That’s the same style Buckeye holster I sold.
IIRC, mine brought close to $300 a few years back. Not bad for a full flap Bianchi stamped with an inedible nut!

I’ve only had it a few hours and I am thinking about punching the 10mm cylinder out to 10mm mag.

Thumbs up

I bought a new 38-40/10mm version back when they became available. I was already a 10MM fan, and never fired a round of 38-40 through it. Don't recall why I didn't keep it, probably traded it on some long forgotten shiny object

Nice looking grip panels on that "new to you" Buckeye 10mm. Prior to this post I had never heard of Buckeye Sports.

Thanks!
Me neither. Now I am looking for it’s paternal twin, the 32-20 / .32HR

You might be able to find a donor cylinder to rechamber rather than altering the original. How long is the cylinder?

I agree. If the urge persists, that’s exactly what I’ll do. After a month or so, I’ll probably have forgotten about it.

If the length is right consider a 9mm or 357 cylinder. It's much commoner and and easy rebore.

Those Nills are nice, adds a little needed length to the grip. Oddly enough, now I’ll be casually looking for the ..32 version.

Curiosity got the best of me so I just checked for listings on the gun auction site... Wow, they have both versions, but the asking prices... sheez.

When I pulled up the completed auctions, I saw that the going range for both versions are around the $900+ range.

I was surprised to see as many as I did in the completed auctions, so they do look to be turning up with some regularity.

I saw those completed auctions, which prompted me to give it serious consideration. LGS was asking $695, I offered $650 and it was accepted. Sale included a box of Winchester 180 gr .38-40 ammo, which had a price tag of $64.99. I thought about taking it to the next show as trading fodder, but I think l’ll look for the Buckeye Special in .32, especially since I already load for my 4” 16-4.

That's a great price. I paid $750.00 for my .32 Buckeye in 2017, and it included 2 boxes of Remington 32-20 ammo, which was running about $50+ a box at the time.

I have two 6" 16-4's, had one of the them punched out to .32 Fed Mag... no regrets, it's become my favorite wood's handgun.

Now if only I could luck into a Marlin 1894CB in .32 H&R... not holding my breath for that costly unicorn to appear, but maybe Ruger will resurrect it.

I hear ya. I am also a Marlin guy, they definitely ain’t getting cheaper, especially 1894s. I just stumbled on to a 1950 336A waffle top in 35 Rem. Got lucky $375.

Interesting everyones comments. I have both Buckeye single actions in their original shipping boxes. Never fired them. Maybe I should before I get to old to toddle outside.
