Default Winchester 1894 forend source?

I have a 1908 made, Model '94 20" saddle ring carbine in .32 Win. Spl. that my father, in an overly optimistic assessment of his gunsmithing skills, decided to totally refinish. He completely disassembled the gun, stripped and sanded the wood, and then polished out the barrel and receiver. Then he put away. That was 40+ years ago. I'd like to put it back together and I have everything except the forearm. It was broken years ago. I'm looking for a forearm, repro or not. After running a couple of brushes and patches down the bore, I think it's gonna be a wallhanger. I will probably brown the steel. So, used and beat up works for my application. So does newly made, I just need wood! Anybody know of a good source? Already tried Numrich, Jack First, Boyd's and a few other places.

Instead of browning, why not try rust blue. That was the original finish in 1908 I believe. Midway has a kit and how-to video. I find screws and miscellaneous parts on ebay and gunbroker.

Edit: Just looked at ebay. There's 9 of them right now. Some pre 64 which should fit yours. I typed "winchester 1894 forearm" in the search window.

Hope this helps.
Steve

Try Scott Marsden who goes by Classic Firearms and Parts in Chichester New Hampshire. Scott is knowledgeable and honest and might be a better choice than some of the internet sharks. By the way, your Winchester takes a "long forearm" and later forearms will not work.

The orig finish on that period 1894 would have been
Rust blued bbl and magazine tube
Charcoal blued frame
Color casehardened lever, hammer and butt plate.
Some small parts would have gotten a nitre blue but up around 830F so it came out deep blue/black. Not the sky blue color most think associated with Nitre bluing done at 700F(spring temper.)

You could do the entire carbine in rust blue with varied polishing gloss. Then wear the finished back a bit so it doesn't look brandy new, and it would look very presentable for it's age w/o getting into a full blown restoration and the $$ involved.

Treebone Carving and Gunville gunstocks are a couple other sources of wood. They will be precarve and 90-95% inlet wood so they will need final fit. The outsides are usually about a 220grit sanded finish and quite close to finish dimension.

Thanks for the help guys! I ordered one off ebay and it arrived today. It is used, but the fit is almost perfect. Just needs a slight adjustment to the hole for the barrel band screw. Easy peasy. Hard part is going to be getting it and the buttstock to match in finish. As far as the metal, I'm still leaning towards browning the barrel, receiver and mag tube. The other parts, I'll have to look at, but I may just put them back the way they are. Really, if I come out of this with something that's assembled, functions, and isn't just completely hideous, I'm way ahead on this deal. So far, I'm into it for the cost of the forearm. I'll probably replace springs, if available, but I'm not spending a fortune on this. Too many Smiths to buy.
