Unless they're started back up, I believe they went out of business a year or so ago.

I traded up to this Springfield Model 1922AII from a Remington 513T when I was young and continuing to dabble in small bore competition.
Savage Model 1919 NRA. A dead end design that was soundly whipped by the Winchester Model 52 in the marketplace, but was an early effort to provide for a target grade .22 rifle for the budding interest in small bore match shooting just after World War I.

Used to shoot on the university team in the UK back in the early 1960s. BSA International Mk 2 at 100 yds. Excellent training, though like LVSteve, I was used to SMLEs and 0.303 ammo in the High School's Army Cadet team in the early 1950s, (though LVS was much later than that!!). Dave_n

Junior league stuff
Remington Model 34 NRA Target. This one now wears a tube magazine that better matches the rifle's finish condition. Quite accurate and the interestingly designed repeating action is fun to operate.
Winchester offerings
Model 57. Uncommonly found, this one's a sad looking example, but shoots better than most .22 rifles here. Found 40 years ago in pile of junk long guns that a pawn shop was throwing out. Both sons later used it in early small bore competition to occasionally beat out competitors with much better looking equipment.
Winchester Model 68, the seldom seen target variant of the ubiquitous Model 67. The ones found almost never have their front sight ramp and hood intact.
Model 69As, a target and a sporter with Unertl Condor 6X scope.

I shared this with AJ and decided I would put this up on this thread.
My most prized rifle is my 1813 Anschutz, SN 001 with a USAMU barrel on it that I bought from Lones Wigger Sr.
I shot on his smallbore team in Carter Montana and with his coaching was able to shoot my first 100 in standing. Still have that target as he scored it, and signed it.

This target rifle is “old school” style but new production. It’s a Savage Mk II FVT in .22 LR. It comes with a globe front sight with a set of inserts and a Williams receiver sight with one aperture. When I bought it a couple of years ago I zeroed it at 30 yards on an indoor range with some old standard velocity ammo and I’m pretty happy with the groups. I’ve yet to shoot it extensively and test ammo brands at 50 yards. The ‘plastic’ stock isn’t attractive, but as for accuracy, it’s not bad for an entry-level target rifle.

Tom,
for a starter rifle those do well. I had one about 50 or so rifles ago. A friend had one that shot very well, but he had replaced the trigger, stock and barrel to get it there. There is no real need to shoot ity-bity groups unless you are shooting incompetition. Just have fun with what you have!

If I could shoot 1/2" groups at 200 yds I would win a little money in somebody's competition.
Here's my latest 200 yard group out of my Remington 40-X. Ten shots, with an extreme spread of 2.275". There was only a slight puff of breeze.

I have two specific .22 target rifles, examples of which I have personally used in high school and college ROTC competition.
The first is a Winchester Model 75.
And the second is this Springfield Model 1922, converted to M2 specs.
Both delivered the goods for me when I did my part!

I also have a Mk 8 I use sometimes. Bought it at OGCA from an old guy who deals in irons. Paid though the nose for it! I tried to negotiate with him from his ask price. He said, "The discount is already figured in." I paid his price.
You can't find good Mk 8 Redfields very often.

I got one of the MK 8's from CMP for $135, had no idea what it was until I looked it up. The other I got off an auction on Ebay. The seller only wrote about the MK 8 sight and never mentioned the Sure-X that was on it. Got the set up for $350.
The first 52 Pre-A I had had a Merit #1 and was good sight.
Do you had the old scopes and sights catalog?

Well, had the Al Freeland Super Target .22 Rifle out and shot my first sub 1/4” group Monday at 50 yards. It’s the top circled group. The SK Standard and CCI Standard velocity shot great. Probably used 150 rounds having fun, Larry

Mossberg's are good guns. I had quite a few. But when I started to try to stretch them out to 50 yards I found their weakness. Switched to the big heavy barrels and sold the Mossbergs.

Savage 416 Trainer
I have a Savage 416 U.S. PROPERTY trainer that was used at the local rifle club back in the 60's. My dad was the instructor and the club actually started the club up over the bank, a second floor. I remember shooting them at the National Guard Armory, big heavy rifles for a young kid. This was in dads closest, and when I tore it down this spring I found his name under the butt plate, like all his guns. Don't know a lot about them.
Any info would be great.

The 416's are good rifles. A friend had two, but sold the second to another friend when he figured out someone had rechambered it to .22 Magnum.

More years ago than I care to recall a gunsmith friend went into his stash and put together a Winchester Model 75 from parts salvaged when a local club in Eastern VA had gone defunct. I got as far as having the fore end milled for a Freeland Rail, but never quite got around to finishing it up. I never really shot it as much as I had hoped I would and it now languishes in my safe waiting for me to have pity and take it out to play.
About 10 years ago I had the good fortune to go to the CMP Store at Camp Perry and pick out a Kimber 82G. It has been fired very little in the intervening time, but I did get around to fitting it with a Lyman 20x Super TargetSpot I had left over from my Schuetzen days.
For the real old timers here, I am in the process of resurrecting a Ballard position rifle as would have been used in the Thirties through the early Fifties. Single shots are my true love!

My buddy and I went to the CMP Marksmanship Park in Talladega yesterday. If you ever have a chance to go, by all means GO ! The place is fantastic.
Anyway we took these old guys. We shot at 50yd and 100yds, they have electronic scoring which is so cool.
We set up the Remington Model 37 at 50yds and set up the H&R Model 12 at 100yds. The pictured group was my best of day at 100 yds.
The RO's were all super nice and the old school 22's caught a lot of attention from them.
