What do you do with a brand new pistol you recently purahsed but now hate
Well, after recently purchasing the Glock 19X and installing a Flat trigger only to find out later you hate the gun, what would you guys do? If I trade it in to Cabalas they will give me almost nothing for it. I am also not too keen on selling my gun to a total stranger I do not know.
I don't enjoy shooting it because my other 9mm's are much easier to shoot and more accurate. The reason I bought it was only because I liked the fact it ships with 19 round mags and loved the color.
It is combat accurate and up to 21 feet I can put all 19 shots on a paper plate rapid fire but beyond that is where things fall off.
I think for a carry gun, as long as it is self defense distances it serves me fine but anything further away would not be good. I honestly don't think I will carry it because my MP 2.0 compact is just so much faster.

Put it on consignment and take the financial hit.

It's still dealing with strangers but you could try to see if someone wants to trade for it. Maybe they want to upgrade from "grandpas old magnum in the sock drawer"! Or you could offer it for sale on this forum. We might be a little less "strange". Just a little. Otherwise, yeah you're gonna take a hit. The gun store has to make money.

I sold a month old Sig 22 pistol to pawnshop several years ago . Since then have been selling on Armslist and one on here no problem. Only had one problem with a potential Armslist buyer that was too pushy and told him no.

I would likely set an attractive price and offer it to the membership here. If results don't come within a week or so, I would put it on consignment at a LGS, take the financial hit, rid myself of it, and not look back. Keeping something you really don't like only pains the soul. Just move on.

There are dealers at gun shows who do paperwork(4473) and if you trade for something on their table, you will probably come out better. Where I live, Glock is the #1 selling 9m/m.

Life is too short to own stuff you dislike.
That said, If you do sit on it for a while, there's a fair chance a friend or relative will want/need something along those lines.

Glock's are good pistols but today there are just so many more 9mm guns that shoot so much better. You would think Glock would get left behind. As for selling mine, to a gun dealer i would not feel so apprehensive but to a private citizen with my serial numbers I would feel a bit leary.

??? Why? Do you have your own custom serial numbers on your guns? If you sell it to an individual on this forum or another site it still has to go to an 01 FFL dealer.

Yeah thats not a thing. Just say goodbye to the gun. Sell it at a local shop or a gun show. Whatever the loss in price is considered the cost of education, and you get to be smarter now.
I forget that I hate Glocks every ten years or so, buy one and sell it again.

I’d never sell a gun privately without transferring the gun through an FFL, even in places where it is legal. Just not my thing. But the price the FFL is gonna charge you for the transfer is still worth a private sale. The dealer might you give $300 on the never fired Glock. A private sale will give you at least $450. Then again, $150 isn’t worth a lot these days. Walking into a shop and walking out with the cash is less work than posting an ad, waiting for responses, waiting for payment, boxing it up and shipping it out. A dealer would probably give you more if you’re applying it towards a trade from his shop.

Give it to the next Police Officer you see.
"Hi. I'm runner. Congratulations! You've won my random free-gun giveaway!"
Well.... it would be fun.

Have a two-copy Bill of Sale with names, addresses, date, description of item sold, amount$.
Have buyer bring a copy of his paperwork for you, such as photo ID with current address, age, like a driver’s license, and state permit/license if available to establish identity.
If he comes by car face-to-face, photo the car and plate. Do it in the parking lot of the local police station. If payment is in cash, photo it next to the gun. Have good pictures of the gun with the serial number, make & model showing.
Keep a (digital) file of the transaction and you can prove you made a legal transaction, according to the best of your knowledge, if you ever get questioned about it.

Whenever I sell to others they must answer the question, have you Ever been convicted of any crime? Are you under a restraining order? They have to show drivers license, vehicle registration and insurance card ALL With Same Address. Usually have old fashioned carbon copy receipt book that I write driver license number. I give them a copy . By chance they have CCW write they have CCW and still get drivers license number. Cover all the bases.

You may wish to try gun shows. Have bought, traded, and sold many over the years. Used to use Armslist when I lived in Ohio. Bob

So many people would balk at those conditions. I’m not a fan of giving some stranger a photocopy of my drivers license. Much easier to just meet at an FFL. Honestly, all I want is either the gun or the cash. Not looking to do a deal in a parking lot. I do keep a bill of sale for every gun I sell and where it went to.

I've sold a hundred or more in my life. All private sales, no paperwork. Since they changed the law requiring private sale BG checks only a couple. It's just not fun anymore. I'd list them on a local "gun for sale" forum. Make arragements, meet up, swap money for gun. Go on about my business. They went about theirs. Never a problem before, during, or after. Met some great people, some of whom I count as friends today.
Today, I'd do the same thing, except we'd meet up at some place that did private BG checks for a reasonable price. Gander Mountain has some kind of "club" that free BG checks/transfers are one of the benefits as I understand it.

Trade at your LGS for something you like better.
Even though it was accurate as heck, when hubby wanted rid of his Walther PPX because the feed ramp design caused it to loosen and FTF, he installed a new warranty barrel and traded it at our favorite LGS for a new CZ PCR.
He took a hit on the trade but went home happy.

I have no idea what state you're in, so that may affect how you proceed.
I am in Arizona. I have to be confident that my buyer is an Az resident. Thus, they MUST show me an AZ D/L. That's my only obligation.
Of all the guns/brands out there, a Glock will go F A S T in my area. I know the 19X, and it's not exactly one of most popular Glocks, but it's still a Glock, LOL.

Even if you give the gun away you won't lose as much on the gun as you lost on the last car you bought. Get rid of it and count the loss as an education expense. I don't know you but it's only money and I'll bet you have more coming in ever week. Larry

You have multiple options on getting rid of the Glock. IMHO the best deal would be to offer it for trade towards something else you want of equal value to an individual buyer on a firearm forum (S&W, Glock, etc. Forum) or selling/trading website. Next would be on consignment at an FFL dealer. The convenience and no headaches from tire kickers is worth the money that the FFL keeps from the sale of your firearm.

You will take a financial loss, just as if you bought a new car, then decided you needed something different. Sell it or trade it for something you like. At least with a pistol you are not looking at thousands of dollars in loss, unlike with a new car.

You could try it for more than a week, practice a little, get enamored of the reliability, feel the trigger wear in, learn to use the reset, and wind up loving it.

I never thought about it ... but I guess Round Count and Color aren't the best things to base buying a pistol on ... I'll remember that !
For right now ... keep it . Down the road you may need a pistol you don't care if you don't get it back ... a loaner , a trainer for a relative or gift for a new shooter or some one who needs a firearm ... like my friend who's house was lost in a flood ... he had nothing and welcomed anything I could let him have .
The only other option is a trade in on another gun at a dealers .
When you are buying a new gun from a dealer sometimes they will give you a decent amount on a trade in .
I've never "Learned To Love" any firearm ... it's always been "Love at first sight" ... I have learned to tolerate a few , after enough use and personal modification or two I have gotten to like them OK .

And asking those questions might make you feel better, but who would answer yes to those questions if they were there to buy a gun? Even showing a CCW permit doesn’t really matter, since just because you have the document, doesn’t mean it’s valid. No different than a drivers license. You are ordered to turn it in but don’t. Or you have a duplicate after reporting the original lost.
For me, FFL transfer is the only way to go. And not just for protection against criminal charges, but just as much for protection against civil charges, where the burden of proof is far lower. Sell a gun to a stranger in a parking lot and use the defense “I asked him if he was a felon and he said no, and I took a picture of his license plate as he drove off” and tell me how far that plays out when you’re getting sued into the poor house after the guy you sold it to misuses it.

We have a gun shop here that will take a gun in on consignment, let you set the price you want, then they add 10%. They do all the sales work, the buyer will have to do paperwork and the NICS check. Then you come pick up your money. And, if you're like me, promptly spend it all there in that shop.
It's alot better then dealing with strangers on Armslist or walking the aisles at a gun show.
Glocks tend to be easy to sell, I hope you can find what you really like.

Agree with this. Choose a price less than what you paid for it and more than the 50-66% a gun store would offer, and it has to go through an FFL to transfer if you don't do a local sale.

Why hurry to get rid of it? You don't have to use it and it doesn't cost anything to store it away.
My advice is to sit on it for a while, take it to the gun shows for trade fodder, keep an eye out on the gun forums like this one for someone looking for one and sell through an FFL.
Haste makes waste.

You mentioned on another thread that you replaced about 20% of the parts on that thing with non-Glock parts. Put it back to stock and try it that way . . .

I bought a 625 jm last year. Paid like $750.00 for it. I just did not like it. The trigger for one thing would wear on my finger after shooting a lot of rounds through it. I thought I wanted a S&W in 45acp but that one just did not do it for me. I took it to a local gun shop that will sell guns on consignment for 15%. I told them if they could get close to $800. that would be fine. They sold the gun and when I picked up the check I was shocked to see a check for a little over $1,100. I don't know if they sold it in the shop or on GB but I am not complaining. Other than that I have not had any others if any that I didn't care for. Some I like better than others and some I have sold to buy something else. It is legal here in Florida for me to sell to another individual but unless I know them well or they are family I have the gun shop sell them on consignment.

Agreed. I’m not against upgrades but sometimes people spend money on upgrades expecting stellar results immediately. And when it doesn’t happen the disappointment is even more profound.
Put the factory parts back in and see what you get. You’re going to have to do that anyway to sell it. Offer the replacement parts as a bonus.

For me, things that make me wince, twitch, or have negative thoughts about are better put to the halls of history. In this case, I would put it back to original configuration and sell it before it depreciates even more. I'd also sell the 'upgrade' parts separately (or just toss them into the deal to sweeten the pot)..

I'm more of an accumulator than a gun collector, though I consider myself to be the latter.
In my lifetime of collecting I only sold one single gun. It shot poorly (just like your Glock) and I wanted a S&W so I traded it.
Worst decision I ever made. Now they are classics and worth a ton of money. Additionally, now that I reload I could have made ammo to make it run better (properly sized boolits).
So, if it were me I'd wax it and put it in the safe for posterity. Maybe some day your grandson might cherish it (or best friend).

Trade it or sell it to a member here. A G19X would have fairly broad appeal.

Sell it or trade it, apply the proceeds to something you like, the difference is the cost of lesson learned. Even the best research does not guarantee that you will like a firearm. As written here many times, there is no substitute for trying out a firearm before you buy it. Best of luck!

Stick it on BrokeGunner with a starting price equivalent to a $100 loss and call it done.

Put it in the Classifieds here and provide shipping only FFL to FFL.
Or, put your location in your profile and maybe somebody here and trustworthy is close to you.

Just remember that if you put it on consignment with an FFL and it doesn't sell,,or you choose to remove it from sale and take it back that you will have to do a 4473 & NICS check to get the gun back.
That 'transfer' they will most likely charge you for. Some shops may not.
Something to ask about up front.
Ask how they do payment after sale. Some pay at the end of the month of Sale. Some after 90 days. Some that week.
It's nice to know.
If you don't want to hassle with selling on-line, which will involve packing, shipping thru an FFL as it's a handgun..
and you are leary of FTF transactions in the back lot of Wendys after hours..
Then I'd either use it for Trade-in fodder at a Gunshop or Dealer set up at a gunshow where the transaction will be thru an FFL.
Or do the FFL consignment thing just understanding what a few of the rules are.

Do you shoot any competitions? Cas, ipsc, idpa etc. I’ve bought and sold several firearms to friends that I regularly shoot with.

Not wanting to sell it to a stranger is just plain ridiculous . Ever sold a house or a vehicle to someone you didn't know ?
And your other 9mm's are " easier to shoot " ? I never found any of my Glocks to be difficult to operate , but that's just me .

Dump it and forget about it. If ya hang on to it, you'll always harbor a guilt trip. Trust me; I'm an expert at this.

What is the difference between selling to someone you don't know and letting Cabelas sell to someone you don't know?

You are in luck!!! I happen to dispose of unwanted guns - AT NO CHARGE TO YOU!!! I even pay reasonable shipping and FFL fees on both ends.
You are welcome.

Trade it. Someone may know what your gun is worth, but they may have no idea what their gun is worth, despite this being the Information Age. The friend of a friend recently traded a cheap $300 9mm for a really nice Browning Hi Power to some dude who wanted a “modern “ handgun. I would value the Hi Power at $1000 based on the pictures that I saw. In my area, there are plenty of free online advertising sites.

First off, you've received some pretty darn good information from a bunch of smart folks who are "in the know." You need to follow it. Bottom line...dump the thing and if you have to take a loss, so be it. Most of us have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.
Now, to the rude reality portion of the reason for your purchase.
To buy a gun strictly because it comes with nice mags and you happen to like the color is like marrying a woman because she's a blonde and owns a good hunting dog. It doesn't take long to realize you've been had. She gets the house, the car, your bank account, and even the dog and you're out on the curb staring at your garbage cans filled with empty bottles of blonde hair dye.
Good luck.

The Glock 19 is one of the most highly regarded Striker fired pistols Gaston ever produced…I myself had a few of them before I moved on to Sigs. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t a solid, well built, reliable tool. It costs around $600, so not going to break the bank.
Just say it’s not a good fit for you and move on…the whole Hate thing is a little over the top. And yes, it’s OK to sell it to a stranger, just go through an FFL like many here have said…most of us have done it.

If you don't have one already now is a good time to develop a relationship with a good independent LGS. Many will handle consignments for a percentage. Some will even waive some of the fee if you take a store credit instead of cash. You lost money on the gun as soon as you filled out the 4473. Lesson learned. Don't feel too bad. I bought a Remington R51.

Then again, $150 isn’t worth a lot these days. Walking into a shop and walking out with the cash is less work than posting an ad, waiting for responses, waiting for payment, boxing it up and shipping it out. A dealer would probably give you more if you’re applying it towards a trade from his shop.

my thoughts exactly and why I am reluctant to sell to someone I do not know. I have sold to my best friend and have no problem with doing so as he is an LEO. i can also trade it in to cabalas but they will give me nothing for it
